CACFO came together with fellow Croydon Windrush Charities to celebrate Windrush 75. Our elders had a fantastic day, incl our 110 year-old guest of honour, 'Mumma'. We raised the Windrush Flag -with the plight of Windrush victims seeking fair & just compensation very much in mind

It was deeply moving to attend yesterday's wreath laying ceremony at the Memorial Gates on Constitution Hill, in honour of the five million men and women from India, Africa and the Caribbean who served with the Armed Forces during WWI and WWII.

Croydon's Civic Mayor kindly paid host to an improptu visit from a group of Windrush victims out for the day with human rights lawyer @JacquiMckenzie6. Many are still fighting for fair and just compensation from the state backed by campaigners like @ppvernon

Windrush Elders read aloud the same words being spoke in flag raising ceremonies up and down the country: in remembrance of the past and hope for the future; of a story never to be forgotten or silenced; and a pledge to raise the standard every year.

Windrush elders came together in Croydon on Windrush Day to raise the Windrush Flag over the Town Hall with its moto, 'We are Standing on Their Shoulders'. They did so with dignity and pride, knowing that Windrushers still endure a #hostileenvironment.

Flags, acting and lighting aside, the stars of Croydon's Windrush Day flagraising event - alongside Windrush elders of course - were Winterbourne Junior Girls School choir, which brought back childhood memories for many present with a delightful rendition of 'Yellow Bird'. @WjgsS

The struggle for fair and just compensation for Windrush victims was made much of, early in Croydon's Windrush day, in a sketch played by local artist 'Miss Saleah' who made her entrance to Tobago Crusoe's hit song, 'Get Out'.
