This week may be critical for keeping the Save Our Bacon Act out of the farm bill.

The SOB Act is the pork industry's play to wipe out every state ban on selling pork from crated pigs.

On Thursday, Iowa's senators will likely try to add it during the Senate farm bill markup.

🚨 Animal Equality is sounding the alarm on the Farm Bill. A vote in the Senate Agriculture Committee could come as early as next week on whether to include the Save Our Bacon Act, the most destructive piece of legislation for farmed animals in U.S. history❗

If included in the Farm Bill, the Save Our Bacon Act would wipe out farmed animal protection laws across the country, including bans on caging mother pigs, and would prevent any new protections from being passed. 🐷

This is where climate myopia leads: defending factory farming because it has slightly lower emissions.

It's true that caged hens emit less — if you can't move, you don't eat as much grain. Caged humans would also emit less.

But the effect is tiny. Even using this study's numbers, a dozen organic eggs has the climate impact of about five minutes of driving.

The animal welfare impact is not tiny. A dozen caged eggs requires confining a hen for around 335 hours in a space smaller than a sheet of paper.

That's not a climate solution. It's just cruelty with a green label.

🇧🇷 Major victory for animals: Brazil has become the second country in the world—and the first in Latin America—to ban the sale, purchase, import, and export of foie gras.

For those unfamiliar, foie gras is a luxury product produced through extreme cruelty. Ducks and geese are force-fed until their livers swell to up to 10 times their normal size, and those diseased livers are then sold as a delicacy.

It is an unconscionable product that has no place in any compassionate society.

This is another sign that the world is moving away from one of the cruelest practices in animal agriculture. Momentum is building in cities, states, and countries around the globe—and today, Brazil made history.

Kroger promised to end battery cages like these in its supply chain by 2025.

It then broke that promise. It did so to save 1–2 cents per egg in costs.

Today most eggs sold at Kroger come from factory farms like this. Around 8 million hens are stuck in cages just to stock Kroger's shelves.

Amazon, Costco, Sprouts, McDonald's, and Subway have all moved away from these cages.

But Kroger says this is what its consumers want. Tell them it's wrong.
