AniWeCon 2026 was more than a celebration of anime and pop culture — it was also a space for 2 different countries, cultures and creative industries to come together. 🇳🇬🇯🇵✨

In the video, Hitoshi Kozaki, Deputy Head of Mission of Japan in Nigeria, talks about the Japanese representatives, companies and members of the Japan-Africa Entertainment Business Council who came together for AniWeCon.

From Japanese pop culture to the opportunities for future collaboration, AniWeCon created a space to showcase just how much we can build when we connect across borders. 🌍🤝🏾

🎬 A SPECIAL SCREENING AT ANIWECON 26!

The team behind The Trials of the Spear brought an exclusive screening of their new show to AniWeCon, a uniquely Nigerian story brought to life by Comic Republic’s animation arm, CR Motion+, with support from Toei Animation - the legendary Japanese studio behind One Piece. 🇳🇬🇯🇵👒🍖☠️

In the video, Megumi Okawa, production manager and Toei Animation representative on the project, shares a message with the AniWe community. The series follows Dayo Darawu, an outcast who must overcome rejection, face legendary trials and fight to defend his people, drawing from Nigerian mythology and African storytelling while embracing the craft of Japanese anime. The project is being developed with a Nigerian creative and voice cast, making it a particularly exciting example of what collaboration between African and Japanese creators can produce.

Thank you to Megumi and the entire team behind The Trials of the Spear for sharing this with our community. This is only the beginning, and we can’t wait to see where the story goes next. 🔥
