Kerala’s higher secondary education sector witnessed remarkable progress during the tenure of the previous LDF government, according to a NITI Aayog report. The Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) for Plus One admissions reached 89.5% in 2024–25, reflecting a significant expansion in access to education.
The report, "School Education System in India: Temporal Analysis,” places Kerala among the country’s leading performers. Only Chhattisgarh, Puducherry and Goa record higher enrolment ratios. Kerala’s GER stood at 71.4% in 2014–15 during the UDF government, marking an increase of 18.1 percentage points over the decade.
The gains are equally evident in girls’ education. Female enrolment reached 91.7% in 2024–25, compared to 75.69% in 2014–15 during the Oommen Chandy government.
Kerala also ranks fifth in the country for the lowest secondary-school dropout rate. Only 4.8% of students discontinue their education, down from 14.5% in 2014–15. This performance stands well above the national average dropout rate of 11.5%.
The report further highlights the transformative impact of the LDF government’s sustained efforts to modernise and strengthen public school infrastructure. Electricity is available in 99.7% of schools, while 99.5% have computers, and 91.7% have internet connectivity.
In 2014–15, only 25.5% of schools had internet access. The proportion of schools equipped with smart classrooms has risen to 59.7%, up from just 15.2% a decade earlier.
Toilet facilities are now available for girls in 99.5% of schools and for boys in 99.3% of schools, reflecting substantial improvements in basic educational infrastructure.
Even in the face of financial discrimination by the Union government, the LDF government’s determined intervention in the education sector, including the effective utilisation of KIIFB, has delivered substantial results. The Union government’s own data now underscores the scale of these achievements and the success of Kerala’s public education model.

@NSMlive@MamataOfficial Yes.. I remember the speech well, Sir.. she was unflinching in her commitment to Constitutional principles and very clearly elaborated them as well. Would be a great asset to the upper house discourses.
