Californians were forced to pay a fee on their phone bill for years to fund a new 911 system. The Newsom Administration spent $450 million before deciding the design wouldn't work and scrapping it.

Now, we've learned the state is spending another $194 million on a "bridge" contract to maintain service while they try to figure out a new design. This kind of waste is why California taxpayers pay the most yet get the least in return.

The two new taxes (effective 2027) Californians will feel:

1. Sales tax on prewritten digital software & SaaS (Slack, Adobe, Microsoft Office, etc.). ~7.25% base + local. ~$900M/year.

2. Managed Care Organization (MCO) provider tax on health plans. Raises ~$2B+/year but passed to consumers via higher private insurance premiums (~$100/person or $400/family of 4).

Part of the budget deal critics called the largest tax increase in state history.

I warned Newsom that requiring schools to keep secrets from parents about the name and gender used by their child was a clear violation of federal law. Sure enough, the Supreme Court struck the law down. Now our taxpayers owe $4.5 million in legal fees.
