Many women are drawn to chess by female role models. The Queen's Gambit Netflix series, based on a female chess player, attracted an unpercedented number of women towards chess. In my opinion, this is absolutely fine. However, I see no reason why women shouldn't be inspired by men, or vice versa.

I was personally drawn to chess by the intrinsic beauty of this game, inspired mostly by male players. I think both men and women should look at the achievements of people of the opposite gender and learn to appreciate them.

This post is my little introduction to a series of articles I'm planning to write about gender issues in chess: what are the differences? What are the systemic problems and how to go about solving them?

I appreciate all your contributions for a better understanding of all these matters.
