Me: “Because I was told this morning that the executive committee was reviewing my appointment to a new role.”

HR: “That has nothing to do with your termination.”

Me: “Maybe not.”

HR: “You’re still being terminated.”

Me: “Okay. Could you call the COO before I leave?”

HR: “Why?”

Me: “Because she asked me to report directly to her starting Monday.”

HR paused.
