Part woman, part machine🦾 doing disability justice. @DisasterStrat @GDIHub @TheRideAhead. Fmr Washington DC Commissioner, Vogue #21Under21, #DisabilityPower100
So proud & honored to be named The London School of Economics’ Volunteer of the Year 2022 for my work supporting Ukrainians with disabilities (w/ @FightForRightUA@DisasterStrat)!
The Oxford Street Development Corporation must commit to co-production, not just "tick box" engagement.
I'll continue to call for this as the Economy Committee investigates the impact of the Oxford Street pedestrianisation.
@networkrail disabled people have the EXPLICIT legal right to spontaneous travel - ‘Turn up & Go’
What’s this notice for please?
This reads as though you think that you can decide whether to behave lawfully or not owing to staff availability?
Cc @TransportCttee@railandroad
@WriterARM246@TfL Wow, YES very similar! I did pass that overhead sign saying to continue down the platform for the wheelchair boarding point, and did so until I reached a car labelled with blue wheelchair symbols. I got onto that car and it never aligned with the level access platform areas.
@TfL I got on a Northern Line train at Battersea Power Staion at the doors marked with a wheelchair symbol but they don’t align with the raised platform at Kennington and I’m stuck. What do I do? Now at Leicester Square
@HinaBokhariLD@TfL Thanks so much Hina! I will summon the will to write a complaint email today and will cc you. You won’t believe how bad it was. Three hours.
No wonder there is a severe lack of #disabled suitable housing. We need local authorities to refuse planning permission for developments of 10 or more homes unless 30% are to #BuildingRegulations2010 M4(3) this also needs to be included in the #NationalPlanningPolicyFramework.
@TfL Any other wheelchair user or mobility disabled person who boards that train will have the same crisis and be trapped as I was.
Carriages need to be arranged correctly or wheelchair access stickers need to be removed. They are not decorative.
@TfL I went all the way to high Barnet where staff assisted and now on my long way home but that train needs to be take out of service immediately bc the carriage labelled with the wheeelchair stickers is in the wrong place. Not lining up with raised platforms.
This is the pathetic response from @GWR when informed that a train manager has refused to enforce GWR's own policy on luggage in wheelchair spaces.
I shouldn't have to fight to get basic dignity & protection for my mobility aid when travelling home from work.
@CrossCountryUK Hi, I’m on the 1:15 from Leeds to Plymouth. I’m in coach F and the wheelchair space is full of luggage. I personally don’t need the space, but wanted to let you know.

"What happens to disabled people seeking medical care can be very different from what the non-disabled experiences. Ableism allows people to genuinely believe that wishing us dead is not hateful, but somehow rational, scientific, and even compassionate." https://t.co/qZxptxPXJP
"Can a decision ever be entirely free if it is shaped—however subtly—by feelings of being a burden, by unequal access to care, or by the attitudes of those around us?"
Important reflections from Baroness Jane Campbell about assisted suicide bills.

“The likely implementation of Assisted Dying Bills brings to a head the likelihood that services that assist people to die will be available on the NHS, but not those services assisting people to live.”
24-year-old Hunter Adkins, who lived with muscular dystrophy, died after a fall while being assisted onto an Allegiant Air flight. A lawsuit alleges he was placed in a wheelchair without safety straps while boarding was rushed. What happened to Hunter raises serious concerns about how passengers with disabilities are treated when it matters most. https://t.co/xFpwxq5eUj
I was unable to be admitted to hospital yesterday for cardiac treatment because no skilled carers were in place for the weekend .
@wesstreeting@SKinnock can you urgently review how this package is being delivered & ensure the safe, skilled care funded for (CHC) is in place
