Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed. Here in Maryland we are taking steps to educate the people about the importance of Juneteenth.
We hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful day here in Annapolis Maryland and we appreciate and love all those who helped this weekend with our celebration. #juneteenth2022#AJ2022
Happy Juneteenth. Today, we celebrate freedom, liberty, and justice for all.
On this day in 1865 news of the abolition of slavery reached Texas, the last population of people in our country to be told the news of freedom.

President Joe Biden has signed legislation establishing Juneteenth as a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers brought the news of freedom to enslaved Black people in Galveston, Texas. https://t.co/zuUa3cEVpB
Today I signed an executive order recognizing Juneteenth, a day that celebrates the emancipation of those who were enslaved in the United States, as an official holiday in #AnneArundel County.
$20 may not seem like the kind of money that can put on the most fascinating and spectacular Juneteenth Celebration in history, but when lots of people contribute $20 that's exactly what we're going to do. Please donate!!! https://t.co/fZbG20AzKJ
