The date is set, the cover is released, and mine and @careyapplegate’s book chapter on critical whiteness and perspective is set for publication on January 30, 2020! Thank u @boyd3_boyd@JD_ISU@brandonlsams! https://t.co/QUBsn3e8XV
An email the night before finals: “I’m so sorry can I still turn in the essay I just know I’m gonna be in big trouble if I don’t pass”
My response? “Things are rough right now. Turn in the essay. Everything will be fine.” We all need grace and patience right now.
Telling children who love graphic novels that "graphic novels do not help you grow as a reader," is not true and diminishes the children right along with the books. Reading doesn't belong to school. It belongs to readers. Value them!
The FDA is under fire for setting what critics say are near-impossible standards for quick, at-home Covid-19 tests that could provide a breakthrough in stemming the spread of the virus. https://t.co/eemn3Ru1AH
Changing the question “what do you want to be when you grow up/what do you want to do after high school” which focuses on capitalist-centered ideas of purpose and action to “what would be your ideal life/lifestyle after high school” to center ways of being outside of work.
“The number one question you have to ask is about food.” On a meeting with my colleagues and principal and this is the first and foremost topic on all minds. Schools are so much more classes. #edutwitter#teachertwitter
What people don’t realize is that teachers would much rather be in school instructing students and having a sense of normalcy. This is not a “break” or “vacation”. This is unchartered territory and we are doing the best we can with what we’re given.
Hi, my at-promise kids are cool and picked out these books to read for their project-based learning plan. They’re thoughtful and funny and driven and care deeply about racism and anti racism, discrimination, and human rights. I look up to them.
@Chem_Warrior All kids are OUR kids.
I give this talk to every kid the day before breaks- not every student loves time away from school, not every student is going to be happy when the bell rings today. (I have a bag full of mac and cheese for kids to grab on the way out if they need.)
@MrDevyDev The more I've thought about the white supremacy and racism (as well as sexism) baked into those systems, the less they have mattered to me. Your students will be learners for LIFE (not just good students) because YOU are passionate and show them the way. <3
@MrDevyDev Test scores are only one measure of capability- albeit one that frequently matters in our system, but still only one. I've seen you teach (🔥), I've seen the way your kids respond- it is POWERFUL. Focus on what they have given you alongside these test scores.
It's my first @DonorsChoose project: <$200 project to get high-interest reading intervention texts for my high school Ss. Rather than worksheets, let's get them some GREAT BOOKS! #clearthelists#edutwitter#nctevillage https://t.co/9sknfWgt3r
@MrDevyDev Taught Advanced Comp. to seniors for 3 years & loved it! Pros are that they are extremely independent, take direction well, and generally are eager to please (they're trying to get those good references lol). Cons: senior slide- they get accepted into college & lose their brains!
