The King visits @JCBmachines World Headquarters in Rocester as they celebrate 80 years! 🚜
Founded in 1945, JCB remains a family business, employing 7,500 people across the UK. The King toured the factory floor, meeting apprentices, long-serving employees, and their families.
His Majesty also met Ken Harrison, aged 100, the last known survivor of the original backhoe production team from 1953.
In the Innovation Centre, The King explored JCB’s innovative hydrogen-powered machine, developed by a team of 150.
This evening, The King visited Auschwitz 1 where he viewed a collection of personal items confiscated from victims upon their arrival at the camp and passed through the 'Arbeit Macht Frei' gate before laying a wreath at the Death Wall in commemoration of all those who were executed there.

The South African government isn't bad at everything. They rank top for many things, including but not limited to:
1. Being the most racist.
2. Murder and race capitals of the world.
3. Corruption
“What is done cannot be undone, but at least one can prevent it from happening again.”
– Anne Frank, 7th May 1944.
The Queen, as Patron of the Anne Frank Trust, has marked Holocaust Memorial Day at a reception with survivors and supporters of the charity.
🕯️ Her Majesty watched a moving presentation about challenging prejudice by young people from partner schools, before lighting a candle alongside survivors of genocide or hate crimes.
The 27th January, Holocaust Memorial Day, marks the liberation of Auschwitz and, this year, will also mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Holocaust and Anne Frank’s death.
Based on mass graves, it appears more than 150K civilians were exterminated over the last decade by Assad and his death machine, at least 7-8x greater than the civilian toll in Gaza.
So why no charges of “genocide?”
Where are the enraged college protests? The "spontaneous” street demonstrations? Maybe even a single sanctimonious employee walkout? Who is out there haranguing public officials in front of their homes?
Why no “All Eyes on Syria” social media campaign? Where are all the dozens and dozens of new Wikipedia entries? How about wall-to-wall AJ+ coverage?
How about volleys of NGO reports? What about a never-ending barrage of statements from US orgs? Why no on-the-hour, every-hour media coverage? Where are the endless floor speeches from moralizing members of Congress?
What makes this tragedy so different?
Hmmmm, I wonder…..

It was an inspiring morning hearing from volunteers at National Coastwatch Institution on how they keep people safe along the coast - we are grateful for all that you do!
🧭 The Princess Royal, who is Royal Patron of the National Coastwatch Institution (NCI), recently visited NCI Shoreham, one of 60 National Coastwatch stations around the UK, all run entirely by volunteers. This was HRH’s seventh visit to an NCI station this year.
⚠️ Watchkeepers play a vital role in saving lives at sea by maintaining visual and radio watches, looking out for anyone in potential danger.
⛵️ During her visit, The Princess met watchkeepers, received a briefing on the risks and hazards along this busy stretch of the South Coast, and presented service awards to dedicated NCI volunteers at a reception.

Tonight, I resolved to dazzle the Lady of the Manor with a culinary triumph - a Thai green curry of unparalleled authenticity and excellence. The dish had been mentioned in passing some time ago (though whether “some time” refers to days or geological epochs is a matter of debate). True to my unwavering commitment to my wife and quality, I procured only the finest ingredients: spices sourced from distant lands, herbs so fresh they practically hummed with vitality, and free-range chicken raised by a commune of environmentalists who presumably read bedtime stories to the flock.
The kitchen was a symphony of activity. Rice bubbled in the pot, woks and pans sizzled like a scene from an over-produced cooking show, and I, embodying the very essence of culinary precision, muttering “Yes, Chef!” to myself while slicing chillies on the bias. (For those unacquainted with the jargon of the gastronomic elite, cutting “on the bias” simply means slicing diagonally, which is superior to the pedestrian straight cut.)
The pièce de résistance was nearing completion. I was at the critical juncture of adding the fragrant, citrusy allure of chiffonaded kaffir lime leaves. It was then, as the wok beckoned for its final flourish, that I made a discovery so dire it could rival the plot twists of a Biblical catastrophe: I had neglected to purchase the aforementioned leaves - a misstep so monumental it could have been chronicled in the Book of Lamentations.
Unflappable, as all great chefs are, I pivoted with the dexterity of a tightrope walker. A brisk stroll to the orangery yielded a handful of lime tree leaves. My confidence surged as I sliced them into delicate strips, the wok accepting my improvisation with a forgiving hiss.
The table was set as though for royalty - fine china, crystal glasses, flickering candles, and a tasteful posy of chrysanthemums. The Lady of the Manor took her seat, a vision of anticipation. Her fork descended, lifted the first bite, and…
Well. To describe the subsequent events as dramatic would be an understatement. She spat the mouthful out with a vigour that would make a cannonball envious, leapt from her chair, and reached for her iced water with the desperation of one who had spent weeks marooned in the Simpson Desert.
As it turns out, our “lime tree” is not a lime tree at all. It is, in fact, a privet tree. For the uninitiated, privet leaves, when introduced to food, possess the unique ability to transform any dish into a bitter, unholy concoction capable of inducing profound existential regret. A single taste compels one to ponder life choices and seek spiritual guidance, preferably from a higher power.
Humbled but not defeated, I somewhat sheepishly declared that a charcuterie board would salvage the evening. After all, even I could not commit culinary atrocities with cured meats and cheese. I now know this is not necessarily true. A few moments later, the Brie tumbled to the floor in an act of culinary rebellion, leaving me standing there, knife in hand, staring into the abyss.
I am now contemplating toast. 🍞
