Meet Tsunami. He is an eight-year-old Border Collie rescue dog who saved at least 13 lives after the June 2026 earthquakes in Venezuela. Originally found abandoned and malnourished on the streets of Caracas, he was rescued and underwent years of intensive training with the K-SAR ECID disaster canine unit. Alongside his handler Jorge Beens, Tsunami used his extraordinary sense of smell to locate survivors trapped deep beneath collapsed buildings and heavy rubble. His distinguished career also includes assisting in domestic landslide operations and international humanitarian efforts, such as the 2023 earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. Following his deployment in Venezuela, authorities confirmed that this disaster response marks Tsunami's final official mission before a well-earned retirement.
