Officer Caleb Daniel Abney (born September 24, 1999 – February 19, 2026) showed early devotion to his calling as a public servant. Born at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, he was a graduate of Lowndes County High School in 2018 and earned an Associate Degree in Science Criminal Justice from Southern New Hampshire University in 2020.
Caleb began his service in emergency services as a member of Lowndes County Fire and Rescue where he was named the Probationary Firefighter of the Year in 2024. He later joined the Hahira Police Department and continued his devotion to protecting and serving the citizens of the community. His joyful and caring personality was evident even in his brief career as a police officer and had a knack for making individuals feel comfortable even during standard interactions such as the issuing of traffic citations.
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Officer Caleb Daniel Abney on February 19, 2026, in the line of duty at the age of 26. He passed away while conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 75 northbound in Lowndes County, Georgia. A high-speed vehicle struck the rear of his marked police car while emergency lights were activated, instantly killing Officer Abney at the scene.
His service, humor, and love for first response will not be forgotten. Rest in peace Officer Abney.

This morning there was a private honorable return of the 3 lost Airmen back home to Columbus Ohio. Flying from Dover with a fighter escort they came home. l00’s of Patriot Guard motorcycles then escorted them to funeral homes. A sad day for us all.
