In the first decades of Christianity, before the 4 Gospels were written or circulated, at this point in the liturgy, one of the 12 living Apostles would stand up and tell a story they remembered about Jesus Christ (Gospel lesson) and then explain it (sermon). Then that Apostle would consecrate and distribute the Eucharist.

The 4 Gospels naturally took the place of the living Apostles over time. That’s why the Apostles commissioned the 4 Gospels. And it’s why we still stand - in honor of the Apostles sharing their memory of the very words of Christ.

massive facepalm here. You would think our bishops would like to learn about history instead of clicking record and saying just ignorant lines. Slavery didn't end on this day anywhere and the Emancipation Proclamation didn't free a single slave. It was actually a political speak that people laughed at after Lincoln made it. It didn't do anything. Even union troops got upset at it because they didn't join to do anything about slavery as the war wasn't about slavery, but independence from a tyrannical centralized government. That 'government by the people for the people etc' line well that is what the CSA was about. Lincoln threw pro secession politicians in Maryland in jail to keep Maryland from seceding (which would have put DC in a tough location surrounded by the CSA. Delaware might have left with Maryland and even New York was very pro south (see the Copperheads).

Anyways we need to get history right, not the feel good myths like this.

The Constitution was a take over of the Articles so that, as Patrick Henry and other anti federalists said, would become a consolidated government. Which after a few years the northeast wanted out of (many times).

The South wanted to preserve the conservative roots (fix the problems of the Constitution) and the marxist ideas won out. There is NO conservative party or anything in today's government and to say there is one would have to contradict themselves on multiple aspects.

Now how in the world do we have people saying 'subsidiarity' and NOT practicing it or calling for it? Let's stop saying "founded on Catholic truths of subsidiarity" when 0.0% of these folks are calling for that. Calling this a 'nation' or 'country' or thinking DC is supreme is the opposite of subsidiarity. Stop the lip service to the tradition if you aren't ready to call for decentralization bc I guarantee that the Daily Wire would not exist if decentralization happened. How will you continue your day after hearing that a father in Gaza, trapped beneath the rubble, begged rescuers not to save him?

Not because he had lost hope in life, but because he could hear his daughters’ final breaths beneath the debris. Their tiny hands were holding his in the darkness, as if pleading with him one last time. He was the father who had always been their safe refuge, yet this time he was powerless to pull them from the dust and shattered concrete.

Only his head was visible above the wreckage. He looked into the eyes of the rescuers, his own eyes exhausted by fear and helplessness, and said:
“Leave me… my daughters are here… I do not want to come out alone.”

What heart can bear such a scene? What language can describe the agony of a father who realizes he is losing his daughters one by one, while still holding their hands until they grow cold, unable to offer rescue or even one final embrace?

How will your day go on after knowing this story? How will you sit at your table in peace, or laugh at something trivial, knowing that somewhere there was a father whose last wish was not to survive alone?

And the question that continues to haunt the human conscience remains:

How much pain must the world witness before it finally hears the cry of a single father there?
