St. John's Athletics is devastated to hear of the passing of Derek "DJ" Southerland. A double alumnus of St. John's, member of the SJU-TV Production team and devoted fan of all Red Storm athletic programs DJ was a fixture at all Johnnies home games. He brought a contagious energy and spirit to the crowd at every game he attended and always carried a bright smile. ❤️
St. John's games won't be the same without DJ, may he rest in peace.
Details on a tribute to follow.
@Chris_Forman12@purdueboiler83 My opinion as an SID who posts the score regardless of result: if you don’t post, your account is no longer a reliable source of game information. Plenty of people use this app as their primary source of CBB information. You wouldn’t disable statbroadcast if you’re losing late.
Something that cannot go unnoticed:
After another heartbreaking loss in the conference tournament, Quinnipiac head coach Tom Pecora stopped and shook hands with almost every member of the team’s beat reporters and thanked them.
A thread I never in a million years thought I'd have to write.
Over the past few weeks with SMU's success, I've seen a ton of people on here talking about how Peruna, the SMU mascot, killed Rameses, the Fordham mascot, in 1934. I don't think that happened. 🧵
Did the stories get merged over the last 90 years and this is how an urban legend was born? I don't know, but this has been bugging me for like a week. Are there at least a few other college football nerds out there that find this interesting (looking at you @SickosCommittee )
Growing up in my house, there was only one “Coach.”
Many more important than I will offer more meaningful tributes, but Coach had this incredible gift for making everyone feel valued and a part of St. John’s. In so many ways, there will never be another like him.
@frankingeneral@StJohnsBBall I think Fox and YES used to be affiliated in some way. I remember you used to be able to watch YES on the FoxSportsGO app back in the day.
I’m continually baffled and beyond jealous of the undying love that Bona alums have for their alma mater. Every single Bona grad I’ve met would take a bullet for the place, especially the basketball program. Every athletic department in America should aspire to this.
