@goodtobeyouhun @nuttyrobby Lebanon was indeed a very resistant province to ottoman rule, but still our taxes went directly to the sultanate and the Ottomans enjoyed strong military presence in the procince. It is not a given that without our ties to the french, Syria would not have swallowed lebanon.

@nuttyrobby @goodtobeyouhun The only reason lebanon ever came into existence was the maronite's close ties to France and their help in fighting against the Ottomans. The bekaa valley was added (greater lebanon) as a reparations to the maronites after the famines of 1915 to 1918.

@nuttyrobby @goodtobeyouhun Most recent time I can think of is the 1960s (around Eisenhower). Israel came into existence in the 1950s and slowly took the spotlight after the six day war of 67 which gave it legitimacy and the cairo agreement in 69 that lost lebanon part of its sovereignty.
