@gceccles@swtrains_watch I think you are being unfair on Gerald Corbett and Steve Marshall - and at privatisation Railtrack had a railwayman as CEO (John Edmonds). Both Corbett and Marshall were good listeners who surrounded themselves with railway expertise. Both were let down by Directors infighting.
Right now, Putin is launching a ballistic missile assault in Kharkiv. Just yesterday, Donald Trump said Putin wants to “see Ukraine succeed.” He’s either stupid or enabling Russia’s assault on our close ally.

Fuel duty hasn’t risen since 2010, costing the UK £130bn.
Wealthy drivers benefit most, while everyone else faces rising rail fares, cut buses, and poor walking, wheeling & cycling routes.

We need to send every policy maker in this country to see what high speed rail looks like in practice, and I’d guarantee most would have the same reaction Governor Moore had.
Cannot emphasise how bad this is. Our costs for electrification are dire entirely because we only do it in boom and bust bursts.
If you have to train a workforce of 1000s every time you want to do a project it’s always going to lead to cost blowouts as they start from scratch!
Sad to hear that Adrian Lyons has died. Following a distinguished army career, culminating as Director General Defence Supply Chain, in 2001 Adrian became Director General of the Railway Forum, our industry's first think tank and lobby group.

Offer Trump 50% of the revenues for minerals in Russian occupied Ukrainian 🇺🇦 sovereign territory, IF Trump/America helps Ukraine to remove the invader.
£3bn in lost revenue by freezing fuel duty. Again.
Meanwhile, 50% fares hike for those using buses, 4.6% increase in rail fares and a paltry £100m for walking & cycling infrastructure.
This government is taking us in completely the wrong direction on transport.

Chancellor has promised 5x more ££ for petrol tax break than for local transport investment. She’s increased bus fares 50% while freezing fuel duty. This govt’s warm words on climate action are just hot air. #Budget2024
For goodness sake. Despite big tax rises overall chancellor has done it again. Fuel duty frozen and "temporary" 5p cut kept. This government is supposed to care about climate change. And I'm willing to bet fiscal numbers assume increases into the future. How much longer?
