“We have been struggling to protect our land, our culture, our identities- the struggles the Maasai community is facing now- is a continuation of what started with colonialism. This is why it's so important to see the possibilities of our engagement with museums.” Samwel Nangiria
THIS IS SO COOL! Maasai Elders with @Pitt_Rivers on Building Caring Relationships and Earning Trust live from Kenya and the UK. This is the radical hope I am here for. I am in awe. #MuseumLife#LivingCulture#Decolonisation
Laura Van Broekhoven, Director of @Pitt_Rivers sharing that we must centre the other ways of being. Making space. Doing the work. And woah, trying to find the collectors, this is the work. Thinking of my whanau at Parihaka... #decolonisation#museum#Reconciliation
Amos Leuka, Maasai sharing that seeing the "objects" was like seeing 6 dead bodies. Samwel Nangiria, Maasai "you are not holding the artefacts, you are holding the communities... you are holding a secret... you are holding the keys..." #Decolonisation#museum@Pitt_Rivers
Nick Thomas from @MAACambridge saying that engagement is not a project... the processes are organic and we do not know where they will lead. We need to deal with this history. (Fan girling so hard!) #Museum#Decolonisation#RadicalHope@Pitt_Rivers
Hearing the Maasai elders say the word ancestors... an apology for the bad connection due to heavy rains in Kenya... I'm thinking of va, the spaces inbetween. #RadicalHope#Decolonisation@Pitt_Rivers
Linda Tuhiwai-Smith says "research is a dirty word for many of those who have been effected by colonialism and its legacy". Maasai elders teaching me that collecting may also be just as a dirty. Teaching @Pitt_Rivers how to heal from harm #RadicalHope#Museum#decolonising
"We are actively seeking an experienced consultant(s) to re-design up to three of our Education Sessions and Loans Boxes for Romans, Victorians and the History of Gloucester..." Come co-create with us at the @MuseumOfGlos#DinosaursWillBeNext@gem_heritage https://t.co/m0mHfZWBcS
"Having the opportunity to create, and to give to others, may be one of our greatest sources of fulfilment. Culture is everywhere and is created by everyone."
Museums are places of/for hope. This Manifesto helps guide me in this important work we do in our places of privilege. @MuseumsAssoc leading with heart. https://t.co/4t5SliwkDl
Totally in awe of the work of @BM_AG and @AmgueddfaCymru and @MuseumLiverpool reminding us of the power and important of access, safe spaces, sharing stories, community and art. Seeing the art inside a Covid Field Hospital was harrowing and beautiful. #MACoronavirusConversations
@joltgloucester@Ecosia First, rude... I'm from Aotearoa New Zealand not Aussie. And I can only thing of things like "Bonza Deal!" to open with and "Fair Dinkum!" to finish.
Had a really cool meeting with @DrJennersHouse which made me NERD OUT on how vaccines were made. It involves a milk maid, an 8 year old boy, a Doctor who wasn't very good at concentrating on tasks and it all began in a building that looks like a fairy house... #VaccineHope
