Unfortunately today when I went to test my home made infiltrometer rain began to fall therefore it had not made sense to test infiltration as the soil would have been saturated therefore getting poor results #hydrologyathome2021

The soil compaction to me also indicate that the soil is also containing clay and after having done an at home soil test the soil is classified as clay

Today began the organising of exercise 3 of #hydrologyathome2021. While doing so I came to the realisation I have very compacted soil in my backyard due to constant human and dog activities therefore making it too difficult to try n place the infiltrometer in the soil.

The pvc cutting is my design of an infiltrometer. It’s diameter is 8.9cm with a height of 9cm. The ring of tape is marking the 2cm depth for when it is placed in the soil. The volume of water being used is 200ml based on the diameter size but still make adjustments as I continue

The dark overcast clouds indicated signs of rainfall was due to occur but never did. #stressofresearch #hydrologyathome2021

Day 5, the last day of exercise 2. Extremely hot and humid.
The readings are as follows:
Gross Rainfall Gauge: 5ml
Interception Gauge 1: 0ml
Interception Gauge 2: 2.5ml
These readings are showing once again how a multitude of things can affect the through-fall readings.

This morning the sun was out high and bright in the sky with little to no breeze, having the area feeling like 100 degrees- exaggerating but these temperatures and the hail falling in Arouca yesterday are sure signs of climate change🤷‍♂️ #ClimateEmergency

Today is day 4 of exercise 2 and the readings are as follows:
Gross Rainfall Gauge: 150ml
Interception Gauge 1: 110ml
Interception Gauge 2: 65ml

The interception gauges readings indicate to me that the canopy that the vegetation makes is either absorbing the water, the water is sticking to the plant due to adhesion forces, or the down pour of rainfall was not powerful enough to intercept the canopy of vegetation.

After the isolated showers yesterday, the sun is out high and bright, and the plants green and erect. Today, day 3 of the second exercise of #hydrologyathome2021 the readings are as follows:
Gross rainfall: 10ml
Interception gauge 1: 5ml

Thus causing sunny skies and high temperatures feeling like 40 degrees Celsius but in reality the temperature is around 34 degrees Celsius #hydrologyathome2021

So today the readings were as follows Gross rainfall- 10ml, Interception Gauge 1- 0ml and Interception Gauge 2- 0ml unfortunately for the next 3 days there will be little to no rainfall readings due to a trough extending southwest of hurricane Sam slackening the pressure gradient

The vegetation interception is being measure for is a merengue canopy and merengue and cherry canopy

Day 2 of the second exercise the reading in the rain gauges measuring interception was “0” although it had rainfall. Possible reasons for the 0 reading is evaporation because of the short time frame of rainfall either the water evaporated or there was little to no throughfall
