Cheating performance tests to artificially improve the results... Dieselgate, right? Well, this malpractice doesn't stop at cars. Energy performance tests of household appliances can be tweaked to get a better energy label. It's called 'circumvention' and needs to stop. See⬇️

What is the impact of circumvention? What is the potential of energy being lost due to products circumventing the #energyefficiency#energylabel#EUecodesign requirements?
Details by @RStamminger@UniBonn: could be an equivalent of a car driving around the globe 42 000 times
Testing of refrigertors, performed by Re/genT lab, explained the door opening importance - as performed within the standarides tests as well as display of a controller, providing a digital clock and the impact on energy consumption of a product within the test and in real use:
Example of circumvention - its not only a possible software issue, but also other ways of circumventing the legal and standardisation requirements.
@VDE_Group tested a dishwasher where different instructions were given for the laboratory than for the end users:
An example provided also for a washing machine tested by @LCOE_ES - comparing various values of energy consumption at different kilogram values: comparing manufacturer declarations and test results of both values declared by the manufacturer and other load values:
Summary of project actions by @GraulichKathrin @oekoinstitut:
8 products groups analysed - three models tested from each category, with 18 suspicious cases in total.
Models were selected within a targeted selection procedure of suspicious cases.
Overview of results:
