There's a major disconnect between what writers think are original ideas & what execs/reps/producers/consultants think are original ideas... why??
Because writers can only judge by what gets made. So, it's easy to say "There's never been a movie like this!" And THINK that their idea is original. But what they dont consider are the 300 scripts exactly like theirs that execs/reps/prods have read over the years that, for 1 reason or another, never sold or got made.

And we are comparing YOUR script/idea to THOSE hundreds or scripts - not just the ones that got produced. And while theres no way for writers to know how many scripts with the same basic concept as theirs have been circulated & read, please know that number is at least DOZENS if not hundreds if not thousands.
So if pros are telling you the concept isnt original and you think it is because you've never seen that movie -- that's not what they're referring to.
