GOV. ALIA FETES WORKERS' DAY WITH CONFIDENT COMMITMENTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
... Appreciates Benue workers for their role in the State
Thursday, May 1st, 2025
Benue state Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has expressed profound gratitude to the Benue workers, acknowledging their vital role in driving the state's progress.
He stated this today at IBB Square, Makurdi, venue for the celebration of Workers' Day in the state.
Highlighting significant strides of his administration in the last two years, the Governor said the workers of the state deserved special acknowledgement for the successes made so far.
Further in his speech, the Governor pointed out the implementation of a ₦75,000 minimum wage, exceeding the federal benchmark by ₦5,000 as a way of elevating the living standards of civil servants, reflecting a commitment to enhancing worker motivation and productivity.
The Governor also detailed reforms in pension processes, ensuring that retirees from the state civil service receive their entitlements without undue delay, thereby restoring dignity to those who have served the state.
He also listed the part payment of five months’ salary arrears for workers, including political appointees from previous administrations, promising regular payments moving forward.
In a bid to modernize the workforce, the governor disclosed that the newly established Benue Public Service Institute has begun the training of the over 40,000 workers in e-governance, preparing them for a modernized public service, explaining that the institute will soon offer postgraduate programs to further enhance skills and promote career advancement.
He also revealed how he has addressed the challenges posed by the removal of fuel subsidies, citing the transportation subsidy initiative in the state as one of his administration's way of easing commuting costs for workers.
The Governor equally mentioned additional support measures, such as subsidized fertilizers for farmers, reflect the administration's commitment to a holistic approach in addressing worker welfare.
He urged workers to maintain high standards of professionalism and excellence, condemning negative workplace behaviors.
While also emphasizing on the importance of collaboration between the government and labor unions in the State, the Governor reaffirmed his commitment to building a Benue that rewards hard work and upholds the dignity of labor, saying, "together, we will build a future that our children will be proud to inherit".
He assured that the voices of the workers will always play a crucial role in the administration's vision.
