Elderly left in the lurch as new model fails at first hurdle
The Boroondara City Council, the Mornington Peninsula Council and the Department of Health and Aged Care have between them played their parts in outsourcing in-home care.

Had my first interview with a Home Care Package provider today at Dad’s place.
The admin fees plus the fees for home services are eye popping - even for level 2. Dad isn’t going to get much for his funding.
Application for level 3 bec of Dad’s dementia is underway.
#FreeMarket policies pursued fervently in #homecare and #agedcare by both Labor & Liberal governments working out just as intended. It's the elephant in the room that no one wants to acknowledge or address. So here we are. https://t.co/Zv1Qg37OjF 👇
Older people in aged care facilities have been stripped of their rights to seek justice for abuse perpetrated against them by providers. @AlboMP why are you pandering to providers when you should be standing with the vulnerable?

No proof required for #agedcare providers to claim extra $10 per day food supplement. This from Dept of Health website: "We are not asking you to provide us with spreadsheets or evidence that supports your answers." Half a billion $ per year. No transparency despite #agedcarerc.
The Fair Work Commission thinks it's helping by making home care workers in #agedcare do a minimum of two hours but as @NormanHermant reveals, it will mean some people can't stay at home any longer. https://t.co/EPACI7yWBe
When you have more rights after buying a faulty toaster than when you are an aged care resident, you know the system is corrupted & abysmal. This bill strips older people of their rights as a citizen in order to protect providers.

Have just learnt that my grandmother’s nursing home waited 8 hours between recognising stroke symptoms and calling an ambulance. They left her for a whole day unable to speak or move. I am so angry. In what world is this acceptable aged care? #MedTwitter#agedcare@Mark_Butler_MP
Earlier this year, following an ABC investigation, the Queensland Government announced two inquiries into the state’s public trustee. Since then, hundreds of people have come forward to report their own experiences of high costs and dwindling balances.

@CharlesAndrewMK Local governments in Victoria are walking away from aged care at home because they assessed that the Coalition’s proposed Support at Home program made it impossible for them to continue. Local government has a critical role to play. It should never have come to this @AnikaWells
