When I sought your mandate, I promised to move Nigeria towards a credit-based economy and to establish a loan guarantee scheme that would help small businesses overcome the barriers that keep them from finance.

That promise was about something practical. A worker with access to credit can buy what the family needs and pay over time, and a small business can invest today against the income it expects tomorrow.

We have been building the institutions to make that possible. Through CREDICORP, working Nigerians can access consumer credit. Our students can finance their education through NELFUND, while the Bank of Industry and Development Bank of Nigeria continue to lend to businesses.

The National Credit Guarantee Company takes on one of the hardest barriers to business credit.

Credit matters because of what people can do with it. A trader can restock before the festive season. When a manufacturer takes a bigger order and buys another machine to fill it, another Nigerian gets a job.

NCGC estimates that the businesses it has supported account for 661,291 direct and indirect jobs.

This is how we move from reforms to opportunities. Our reforms laid the foundation. Credit gives Nigerians the means to build on it. Tens of thousands who stood outside formal credit a year ago are now inside, borrowing to grow.

We will keep widening that road until the opportunities our reforms create reach homes and businesses in every part of Nigeria.

Promise made, Promise Kept. We are moving from reforms to opportunities. Nigeria First.

NCGC has issued ₦21.59 billion in guarantees. On the strength of those guarantees, participating lenders have extended ₦46.95 billion in loans.

That means every ₦1 in guarantees has helped unlock about ₦2.17 in credit.

So far, 67,512 borrowers across 25 states and the FCT have received credit backed by NCGC. 11,374 are women.

And 33.5 percent are first-time formal borrowers. For more than 22,000 Nigerians, this is their first entry into the formal credit system.

They now have a credit record they can build. Each successful repayment strengthens that record and can make the next loan easier to secure.

[Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT]

Many viable businesses still meet the same obstacle at the bank. Lenders see too much risk in a sound business when the owner has little collateral or no credit history.

We established NCGC to help change that. It carries part of the lending risk with participating financial institutions, giving them greater confidence to lend to businesses and borrowers they might otherwise turn away.

Today, NCGC works through 19 financial institutions: 13 commercial banks, three microfinance banks and three development finance institutions.

One year into operations, we can see what that model is doing.

PRESS STATEMENT

2027: WHY NIGERIANS MUST KEEP ATIKU AWAY FROM THE NATIONAL TREASURY

The media and public discourse have been awash with damning reports of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s alleged dealings in local and international bribery and corruption schemes.

Ghosts of his sordid past continue, restlessly, to haunt and warn that Atiku must never again be allowed anywhere close to such a commanding position of trust and responsibility as the presidency. As a former public official, Atiku’s record is an executive summary of some of Nigeria’s vilest episodes of corruption and cronyism that pulverized our economy and decimated public trust.

Nigeria’s upcoming presidential election presents the electorate the opportunity to deal a final blow to Atiku’s desperate quest for presidential power, and save the country from his ravenous plunder.

From the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project and the Siemens bribery scandal to the William Jefferson case, the PTDF funds controversy, and the US Senate investigation into suspicious financial transactions, Atiku’s name is engraved ingloriously on files and dossiers of onshore and offshore financial scandals and atrocities.

These are not mere allegations. They are matters that are well documented in official records, tribunal proceedings, government investigations, national and foreign legislative reports, and international financial inquiries. Together, they raise legitimate questions about the fitness for probity and accountability of this serial presidential contender.

The latest controversy surrounding the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project is particularly troubling. An International Chamber of Commerce Arbitration Tribunal in Paris examined a $500,000 payment made in January 2003 by Leno Adesanya, promoter of Sunrise Power, to Jennifer Douglas, Atiku’s wife at the time, through an offshore company. Reportedly, the payment occurred around the period when the Mambilla contract was awarded with Atiku as Vice President. Atiku declined an opportunity to explain and justify what clearly was an illegal bribe payment to his wife.

There was the Siemens bribery scandal in which US authorities alleged that Siemens paid at least $4.5 million in bribes to secure Nigerian telecommunications contracts during the Obasanjo administration, with approximately $2.8 million reportedly passing through a bank account owned by Jennifer Douglas, Atiku’s ex-wife. Siemens subsequently agreed to pay approximately $1.6 billion in penalties to US and German authorities over global bribery violations. Again, Atiku’s Vice Presidential soiled fingerprints in focus.

And there was the William Jefferson bribery case with Atiku and his close associates falling under the scrutiny of American investigators. US court records indicated that former Congressman William Jefferson disclosed paying Atiku $100,000 to influence a proposed business partnership involving iGate and Netlink Digital Television. Jefferson was eventually convicted and sentenced to prison. Again, Atiku’s dark web of corrupt influence peddling and abuse of office on display.

The 2010 report of the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations that linked Atiku and his ex-wife, Jennifer Douglas, to more than $40 million in suspicious funds transferred into the United States through offshore companies and lodged in over 30 shadowy bank accounts associated with ex-wife, Jennifer Douglas and her family, again tells a sordid tale of a man that cannot be trusted with the nation’s treasury.

Atiku’s sudden u-turn from his 2023 policy position in favour of fuel subsidy removal to his new promise to restore the fuel subsidy regime, if elected, must be understood as his latest device to lay his hands on, and squander, the country’s 18-year foreign reserve high of over $54 billion built up from $3 billion by President Bola Tinubu in less than four years through bold and prudent economic reforms.

ATIKU APPROVES LEAN, PEOPLE-DRIVEN ADC PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL

Former Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the ADC, Atiku Abubakar has approved a campaign structure shaped by the realities Nigerians face every day. When families are struggling with food prices, transport costs and shrinking incomes, a campaign asking for their trust must show discipline in how it operates.

Kashim Ibrahim-Imam will chair the Council, with Nasir El-Rufai as Deputy Chairman. Senator Austin Akobundu will serve as Director-General and Campaign Manager, responsible for turning strategy into coordinated action.

Six Deputy Directors-General will lead the operational directorates, working with 30 Directors assigned specific responsibilities. Dele Momodu will head Media and Communications, while Dino Melaye will lead Contact and Mobilisation.

Mohammed Hayatudeen will chair the Policy Team, working with Professor Mohammed Sagagi and other members, including Professor Kingsley Moghalu, to develop practical answers to the problems Nigerians have put before us. John Oyegun will chair the Campaign Advisory Board.

This is a structure built for work. Every directorate has a duty. Every director has an assignment. Every appointee must account for results.

Our measure of success will be how clearly we address the cost of living, unemployment, insecurity and declining purchasing power—and how effectively we organise to make Nigeria affordable again.

Director, Strategic Communication, ADC Presidential Campaign Council & Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to Atiku Abubakar, Vice President of Nigeria 1999-2007 & Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress.

[Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, CON @DapoAbiodunCON]

We have taken another significant step towards unlocking the economic potential of Ogun State with the signing of Memoranda of Understanding with DP World MEA FZE for the development of the Gateway Deep Sea Port and the Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone.

The projects, witnessed by our President, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in Paris, France, are expected to attract more than $7 billion in initial investment and create over 50,000 direct jobs, while opening new opportunities in manufacturing, logistics, maritime services, exports and other sectors.

The Gateway Deep Sea Port in Ogun Waterside will be integrated with a proposed 10,000-hectare Blue Marine Special Economic Zone and connected to other strategic infrastructure, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and our Gateway International Airport.

For us, this is about much more than building a port. We are creating an integrated economic corridor capable of connecting Ogun State’s productive capacity to markets across Africa and the rest of the world.

We appreciate President Tinubu for the leadership and federal support that have helped move this long-standing vision closer to reality. We equally commend the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, the Nigerian Ports Authority and all our partners for their commitment.

Under our Building Our Future Together agenda, we remain committed to attracting investments, creating jobs and positioning Ogun State as a leading industrial, logistics and investment destination.

[Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT]

Under our Renewed Hope administration, Nigeria remains open to partnerships that deliver meaningful benefits at home and create opportunities for our people.

I welcome the agreement signed in New York by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake @AlakeDele, and US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau to deepen American investment in Nigeria’s mining sector and help unlock the potential of our mineral resources, estimated at about $700 billion.

From the beginning, we made a deliberate choice to move Nigeria away from simply extracting and exporting raw minerals. We tied new mining licences to local value addition and have worked to attract investment into processing and refining here at home.

That policy is already producing results. New processing plants are being established, billions of dollars in investment commitments have entered the sector, and investor interest in Nigeria’s critical minerals continues to grow.

Our ambition now is to deepen this progress across the entire mining value chain, from exploration and extraction to processing, refining and manufacturing.

At every stage, Nigerians must benefit. Our geologists, engineers and technicians must find work. Our young people must acquire new skills. Local contractors, transporters and suppliers must have opportunities to build businesses. Processing closer to where minerals are found should bring industry, infrastructure and better livelihoods to mining communities.

We are also changing what Nigeria sells to the world. We want to process more here, manufacture more here and export higher-value products.

The agreement with the United States builds on the progress we have already made. We welcome partners who bring capital, technology and expertise and are prepared to create value with us here in Nigeria.

Our mineral wealth must create Nigerian jobs, grow Nigerian businesses and bring greater prosperity to the communities where these resources are found. This is how we turn the reforms we have made into opportunities for every Nigerian.

About $5.9 million of the project will go into construction, while $6.1 million will fund equipment and programmes for entrepreneurs and businesses.

I thank the Government of the Republic of Korea, KOICA, UNDP and SMEDAN for advancing this project.

We will continue to work with partners prepared to invest in Nigerian enterprise and build lasting capacity here at home.

I want to see more Nigerians take good ideas, build strong businesses around them, employ others and compete successfully within Nigeria and beyond.

Across Nigeria, there are people with ideas, skills and the ambition to build businesses of their own.

What often stands between an idea and a viable company is access to the right tools, workspace, technology, training, finance and business support.

When those gaps are closed, businesses have a better chance to survive, expand and employ others.

That is why investments such as this are important to the work we are doing to strengthen enterprise, deepen our digital economy and create more opportunities for Nigerians in every part of the country.

[Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT]

I welcome the commencement of construction of the $12 million Abuja Centre for Entrepreneurship, being developed at the SMEDAN Industrial Development Centre in Idu, Abuja, with support from the Republic of Korea through KOICA @KorEmbNigeria and in partnership with SMEDAN @SMEDANGov and UNDP @UNDPNigeria.

The Centre will support the wider MSME ecosystem by providing workspaces, digital infrastructure, training, incubation and business support for entrepreneurs, start-ups and growing businesses.

It will begin with 500 aspiring entrepreneurs, 400 start-ups and 1,500 MSMEs.

[JJ. Omojuwa @Omojuwa]

If you want to criticise President Bola Tinubu effectively, just focus on him and whatever failings you intend to centre. As soon as you delve into the futile dance of trying to suggest Peter Obi would have been doing better than we are seeing now, you end up undoing yourself.

Peter Obi once posted the strategists he was going to use to revamp Nigeria. They looked so clueless even in the photo, he had to delete the tweet. And he isn't going to create new people to help him deliver his agenda. We already know the people he'd trust to do it. People who care more about noise and agenda than they do about pretending to have better ideas. As we speak, he hasn't posited any better idea under than the word salad he serves when the agenda suits him.

So, let's focus on what we have and stop pretending someone who hasn't exemplified himself at any level in government - whether as Governor of Anambra where he failed woefully, or as Chairman of SEC where he was a non-event or as a member of the Economic Team of an administration that had no clue what to do with excess earnings from crude oil.

The Tinubu government is at its inchoate stage. Its first substantive budget is only in its first month. The realities of the reforms are of course biting. I live the reality myself everyday as one who works and pays bills here. Nigerians are bearing the brunt of the reforms. Anyone who is in denial might as well answer to being a fool. We need a sense of urgency on the part of the President. And he certainly needs top take another look at the cabinet. Sometimes, you don't wait till halftime to effect a change you already spotted. This is crunch time for Nigeria.

That said, as with our individual lives, it is not when we decide to change things that we start seeing the benefits of the change. More so for countries. Change takes time.

Supporters of the president should not shy away from asking better of him. It is your right, more so as you invested your trust in him. Sensible non-supporters are within their right too. After all, we want a better Nigeria more than we care who the president is. That's us.

Those of you who think you can use Nigeria's challenges to advance some obviously incompetent presidential candidate to become president, you can continue to wallow in your delusion. As you were in the banter against Cameroon, you are the weak point. Thankfully, you are also the minority. Nigeria will make it, you will be here to see it, even though you'd pretend to be blind. Like you always do when the news is good for Nigeria!

[Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT]

The decisions we have taken to reposition Nigeria’s oil and gas sector are beginning to bear fruit.

Since assuming office, I have signed a series of Presidential Directives and Executive Orders to make investment in Nigeria more competitive, reduce the cost and time required to develop projects, provide greater certainty to investors and ensure that our natural resources deliver greater value to our people.

One of those reforms introduced specific incentives to unlock onshore and shallow-water gas projects that had remained undeveloped for years.

Today, we are seeing the result.

AMNI International and TotalEnergies have taken an $800 million Final Investment Decision to develop the Ima Gas Field, discovered in 1973 and left underground for more than fifty years.

For Nigerians, this means work for our engineers, technicians and contractors. It means opportunities for Nigerian businesses, jobs and economic activity in our host communities, and more export earnings for our country.

AMNI, a Nigerian company, holds the majority interest in the project. Around 60% of the development workforce is expected to come from the host communities.

Ima is expected to produce about 350 million cubic feet of gas every day at peak and supply about one-third of the gas required for the expansion of Nigeria LNG.

This is what our reforms are intended to achieve, to move Nigeria’s resources from potential to production and translate them into jobs, incomes and opportunity for our people.

We have more to unlock.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR
President
