Not that anyone asked, but tomorrow is election day so:

Amendment 1: renews a soil and water tax for Missouri state parks. I will be voting yes.

Amendment 2: allows Jackson County to have an elected county assessor rather than an appointed county assessor. Yes

Amendment 4: like it or not, believe it or not, the initiative petition process has become the vehicle through which coastal Democrats and liberals insert their otherwise untenable agendas into the middle of our state. Missouri is a Republican state. End of discussion. That’s who lives here. That’s who votes here. That’s the way the people of the state see things.
And somehow, we have:
The most liberal abortion laws in the country
• Back in 2024, Amendment Three didn’t just make abortion legal in Missouri. It made it the Wild West. Open season. No rules.
• Mandatory Medicaid expansion
Have we learned nothing from the Minnesota audits? Fraud and abuse run rampant in big blue cities.
- Recreational marijuana
Don’t even get me started on the licensing game that lets a monopoly exist.
- Mandatory minimum wage hikes
Remember, guys, this is Republicanism 101: mandatory minimum wages don’t work.
The minimum wage in Missouri is $14.75 now.

All of these things have been inserted into the Missouri constitution using coastal money and Missouri’s broken initiative petition process.
Why bother with flipping a whole state blue (would cost hundreds of millions and require a total shift on ALL policy for the entire Democrat party) when every two years you can spend a 10th or a 20th of that on a “citizen led” petition and achieve the same policy results?
Vote yes on 4.

Amendment 5: income tax phase out and eventual ban.
As long as I’ve been in Republican politics, one of the greatest of all conservative achievements was considered eliminating the income tax.
We hate income tax and we should. It’s pernicious, it’s invasive, and it’s crooked. It’s a tax where the government gets your money before you do, no matter what. Maybe it’s a lot of money. Maybe it’s not so much money, but bottom line the government gets your money first.

We’re all on Facebook, so we’ve seen all the concerns and criticisms about the burden shifting to sales tax. I’m sure it will shift some, but in the simplest of all possible terms,
I view it this way:
income tax: the government gets my money before I do no matter what.
Sales tax: at least I have the freedom to choose where I spend money and what I spend that money on.

To the question of “trusting the politicians”

There are many politicians that deceive, disappoint, and lie. It would be foolish to pretend this is not the case.
But I would ask everyone to examine the patterns and voting behavior of the Missouri house and Senate when it comes to tax cuts

2014 SB 509 (veto override): First individual income tax rate cut in about 93 years. Phased top rate from 6 percent to 5.5 percent in 0.1 percent steps with revenue triggers starting 2017 plus business income deduction up to 25 percent.

2018 SB 884: Corporate income tax rate cut from 6.25 percent to 4 percent effective 2020 plus single sales factor apportionment.

2018 HB 2540: Accelerated individual top rate to 5.4 percent in 2019 with further triggers plus federal tax conformity changes.

2021 SB 153 and 97: Additional individual rate reduction triggers plus Working Family Tax Credit.

2022 SB 3 and 5 (special session): Top individual rate to 4.95 percent. Eliminated lowest bracket. More triggers toward about 4.5 percent. Expanded low income exemptions.

2023 SB 190: Full Social Security benefits exemption with no income limits for age 62 and up starting tax year 2024.

2025 HB 594: 100 percent capital gains deduction for individuals from 2025 plus higher senior property tax credit.

So maybe you can’t trust politicians on everything, but when it comes to tax cuts, I trust ours.

If we want to return from a low trust society to a high trust society, you're going to have to talk to people; have actual conversations with strangers. Make small talk. Instead of texting, we could call each other on the phone. There's less miscommunication, and it creates stronger bonds and relationships. My generation will hate this, but it's necessary if we want to restore the kind of communities we had back when we used to call each other on rotary phones in the 90's.
