On the anniversary of his passing, we remember Randy Pausch, Carnegie Mellon professor and virtual reality pioneer, whose unforgettable “Last Lecture” continues to inspire millions. 📘💜 In 2008, just months before his death from #pancreaticcancer, Pausch — despite the disease spreading to his liver and spleen — insisted his doctors get him strong enough to testify before the U.S. Senate, where he delivered a powerful call for increased federal research funding.

PanCAN President and CEO, @JulieFleshman, recently shared, "Pausch’s testimony was a pivotal moment for this disease. It helped set the foundation for the Recalcitrant Cancer Research Act, which was passed with bipartisan support into law in 2013, mandating the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to develop scientific frameworks for the deadliest cancers. Thanks to this legislation, and bipartisan support of sustained increases to our country’s investment in biomedical research, the pancreatic cancer research field has continued to grow. Last year alone, four new drugs were approved for pancreatic cancer, and a major phase III trial showed an overall survival benefit for patients with unresectable, locally advanced disease. These advances are improving survival rates and giving patients more precious time with their families."
