TEAM FUTA RANKS TOP 10 IN SIEMENS GLOBAL IMMERSIVE DESIGN CHALLENGE 2026

A team of four 500-level Mechanical Engineering students from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA has achieved a remarkable global feat, securing a Top 10 position in the Siemens Immersive Design Challenge 2026, a highly competitive international engineering competition organized by Siemens.
The outstanding FUTA team comprises Ayodele Sileola, Bounce Light, Abe Enoch, and Adebanji Emmanuel, all 500-level Mechanical Engineering students.

The FUTA team competed against approximately 200 university teams from institutions across the world, successfully navigating multiple rigorous elimination stages. At the initial assessment phase, the entries were narrowed down to 54 teams, with the FUTA delegation emerging as the only Nigerian university team to advance to that stage.

Maintaining its strong performance through the semi-final rounds, the team ultimately earned a place among the global Top 10 finalists. Its project was awarded a “Highly Commended Idea” certificate by the judging panel in recognition of its innovative and scalable approach to industrial waste heat management.

In addition to its overall ranking, the team’s video submission was also distinguished among the Top 10 Video entries in the competition. The presentation was commended for its clarity and technical depth, showcasing how the students leveraged advanced Siemens design and simulation tools to develop, test, and refine a sustainable engineering solution.

The team’s achievement was made possible under the academic supervision of Dr. R.K. Apaolowo, whose guidance was instrumental in shaping the project’s technical direction and execution.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Adenike Oladiji while congratulating the students described them as worthy ambassadors of FUTA whose exploit has shown the global relevance of FUTA.
According to the Vice Chancellor ," It is a testament to FUTA’s growing reputation for producing globally competitive engineering graduates and its commitment to advancing innovation-driven, sustainability-focused research in engineering education."
