Today the USPS released a new stamped card with an illustration of a schooner by artist Libby VanderPloeg, who also designed and illustrated the 2023 Sailboats postcard stamps.

The USSS/Barbara Mueller Award goes to the author of the best article published in a single year of The American Philatelist. Rick Barrett's winning article βOne of Philatelyβs Most Unabashed Forgers! The Astounding Story of Georges Carion,β was published in June 2024.

Actor Sir Patrick Stewart was born on this day in 1940. Stewart's career has spanned decades, with a body of work that includes Shakespeare, sci-fi, and voice acting. His Star Trek: The Next Generation character, Capt. Jean-Luc Picard, was featured on a Royal Mail stamp in 2020.

Yesterday the USPS announced updates to the 2025 stamp program, including the addition of a two-ounce rate stamp honoring humanitarian Elie Wiesel (18th in the Distinguished Americans series) and four new Holiday Cheer designs. The new issues will be released in September.

The movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial was released in the U.S. on this day in 1982. The sci-fi film, lauded for its special effects, was featured on a sheet of stamps commemorating American film making. The title character also appeared in the 1980s "Celebrate the Century" set.
