To find out what it actually takes to build a world-class roll-up, holdco, or a single platform...

I flew to London and spent a day in a room with people who’ve acquired 5, 70… and even 680 companies.

In a 24-minute summary, I cover:

1) how great acquirers choose markets,
2) build proprietary deal flow,
3) win deals without simply paying the highest price,
4) keep founders engaged after closing,
5) integrate without destroying what made a business special,
6) and eventually turn a collection of companies into an institutional platform.

These roll-ups really look like finance from a distance...

But if you look up close, they are a combination of sales, psychology, operations, hiring, negotiation, capital allocation, culture, and most importanly... endurance.

Enjoy!

i had to brainstorm and study this more and here’s what i figured:

most people think of mount everest as the ultimate symbol of height, conquest and snow but few realize that the very rocks under your feet were once crawling with tiny sea creatures at the bottom of a tropical ocean... the limestone and marine fossils at the summit signifies that the highest point on earth wasn’t always a mountain, it was sea floor.

plate tectonics did what nothing else could, the indian plate slammed into eurasia, lifting oceans, crushing rocks and folding them into peaks that scrape the sky... those fossils at 8,848 meters aren’t just curiosities, they’re proof that nothing about this planet is permanent, that even the tallest mountains were once drowned beneath waves.

so stand there, reflect and think: the floor you conquer today was someone else’s ceiling millions of years ago... it’s humbling, unsettling and almost unbelievable and if this doesn’t make you question everything you think you know about the world, what will?

In June 1999, Ireland defied UEFA and refused to host Yugoslavia in a Euro qualifier amid the atrocities in Kosovo.

The Irish government cancelled the visas of the Yugoslav team.

This year, Kosovo is set to give a warm welcome to Ireland as they meet in the Nations League. 🇽🇰🇮🇪

@serbiainenglish Albanians have historically shortened words.

Serb derives from the Albanian language. Meaning 'Not Albanian'

S'është Arbëreshë. So Arbëreshë. S'Arb. Serb.

Simple linguistic etymology.

Essentially, your whole existence is based on not being Albanian😂

For decades, fat was the primary target of health scares. People gave up butter and eggs to protect their hearts, but that advice was based on a lie.

In the 1960s, a trade group called the Sugar Research Foundation realized science was starting to link sugar to heart disease. To protect their interests, they paid Harvard scientists about $50,000 in today's money to publish a review in the New England Journal of Medicine.

That 1967 study downplayed the role of sugar and shifted the blame entirely to saturated fat.

Following this lead, the food industry began removing fat from products and replacing it with sugar to maintain flavor.

This change helped trigger a global rise in obesity and type 2 diabetes.

We didn't get sick by mistake, but by people who followed guidelines written by people on a corporate payroll.
