This morning in Tokyo the yield on Japan's 30 year Government Bond surged more than 8.6% in a single session, not 8.6 basis points. 8.6 PERCENT. The 10 year yield crossed 3%.
For context, this is a move you would expect to see in a collapsing frontier economy not the world's third largest developed nation and not the largest foreign holder of United States debt. This is the type of spike that signals something has fundamentally broken in the global financial architecture.
What you are witnessing is not a correction. It is not volatility. It is the beginning of a sovereign debt unraveling that will force central banks into decisions they have spent decades trying to avoid. Those decisions will send the price of silver into territory that right now seems impossible to the average investor.
@vonbrucken@BrianJBerletic@McFaul Whatever Putin is, he is not encouraging young people to become disable and suffer for life as shameless Mr McFaul does. Unlikely he would even notice this statistics in Ukraine. @McFaul
In war times numbers are in the dark.
Sergey Rusov writes:
"Why are there so many amputations in the Armed Forces of Ukraine? By the beginning of 2025, we had already officially performed over 95 thousand amputations, not only among our military, but also among civilians. And according to unofficial information, over 120 thousand, because there is primary prosthetics abroad, which is not included in the official statistics of the National Health Service of Ukraine."
This is yet another imprecise figure from the Ukrainian government.
After 18 months of war, the Ukrainian Ministry of Social Policy announced an increase of 300,000 disabled people, BUT CLAIMED THAT THIS NUMBER WAS NOT DUE TO THE WAR:
"According to the Ukrainian ministry of social policy, the number of people living with a disability increased by 300,000 over the first 18 months of the war, bringing the country’s total to 3 million, although it did not attribute the sharp rise to Russia’s invasion."

Last month in Japan, Ukrainian officials repeated this figure of 300,000 disabled people: "In the three years of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukrainian officials estimate that around 300,000 people have been left with disabilities."

What happened to the data from the last two years of the war?
In the Russian army, 54% of the wounded are due to amputations. Since artillery causes 70% of amputations in conflicts, I would dare say that 75-85% of Ukrainian wounded are amputees, given that the artillery fire ratio during the conflict has averaged around 1:10.
Typically, the number of amputations provides an idea of the number of deaths in a conflict, and that’s what I estimated in this post:

It is common for governments to hide conflict numbers during wartime. We need to check for orders and data from manufacturers including prewar.
The only certainty is that when a government hides its figures too much, it will continue doing so after the war, and this is characteristic of those who are not very willing to pay compensation to the families of the dead.
This will be a serious problem in both countries.
This is what’ve said yesterday:
Analyzing the conditions and deciding to evade recruitment is a right for anyone who later chooses to face the law.
No one can be forcibly dragged into vans to give their life to the State, knowing that if they lose their life, their family will still have to fight for compensation.
If I don't want to enlist, I will defend myself in court, as is allowed and occurs in any democracy where the rule of law prevails. Not everyone born to kill.
@GunterFehlinger If you want to fully support Ukrainians and stand in solidarity with them, then of course be unemployed, because that's what they like the most, to do nothing and receive social assistance. That way you will fully feel like a Ukrainian.
