We’ve just had an election. We voted for c. 500 left/liberal MPs out of 650. That’s what our country wants. Not the vicious, bigoted uselessness of the populist right.
These hate riots are the work of a violent, racist minority whipped up by the losers. #FarageRiots#ToryRiots
Whom or what do you hold most responsible for the chaos of recent days? Too many options for a poll, so please just reply.
Of course there are multiple factors, but interested in where people feel most of the source originates, as it’s clearly the source that must be tackled.
Farage was brought to public prominence by Russian TV.
He is the tool of a Russian influence operation, which has already delivered Putin the prize of Brexit, and is working to foment hate, violence, and division in the UK and elsewhere in the democratic world.
A patriot he is not.
Lisa Nandy should summon the owners of every newspaper and TV channel (including the BBC) and the head of Ofcom to make clear that incitements to violence by presenters, columnists or politicians will be subject to the full force of the law. Freedom of speech has limits.
@peterjukes@MikeStuchbery_ I was just thinking this this morning - any coincidence that the Tories ran down both the police and the Army in their 14 years of chaos. They knew they would be defeated at some point. Their legacy is RW hatred and violence - orchestrated by the social & RW media they encouraged
Why does the BBC persist in calling the rioting thugs ‘protesters’? They are not. The term protester suggests they have a genuine cause to complain about. These are just racist thugs. They reject every aspect of our culture & are just disruptors thriving on violence & chaos
@Suewilson91 And suddenly Starmer will start to realise just how much of a thankless task he's got on his hands to "make Brexit work". Let's hope his pro-Brexit sentiments are up to it. Otherwise he'll simply go the same way as all the other Tory leaders. #RejoinEU https://t.co/5ldxoJFfiS
No. There’s nothing ‘legitimate’ about these riots. Nothing that justifies them. And any politician who tells us it’ll get worse if they don’t curb immigration is cynically pouring petrol on the flames. That’ll be you, Jenrick. Irresponsible piece of shit and wannabe Tory leader.
If you want to understand the role that social media companies played in facilitating, and some cases promoting, misinformation that led to this week's far-right violence, I'd thoroughly recommend reading @ISDglobal's brilliant analysis published today👇

BREAKING: Donald Trump gets devastating news as billionaire Mark Cuban and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman join forces and unite over 100 venture capitalists to back Kamala Harris for president.
And it gets even better...
"We spend our days looking for, investing in and supporting entrepreneurs who are building the future," reads the "VCs for Kamala" website. "We are pro-business, pro-American dream, pro-entrepreneurship, and pro-technological progress."
"We also believe in democracy as the backbone of our nation," the site goes on. "We believe that strong, trustworthy institutions are a feature, not a bug, and that our industry — and every other industry — would collapse without them."
"That is what’s at stake in this election. Everything else, we can solve through constructive dialogue with political leaders and institutions willing to talk to us. In this pivotal moment, we are united in our support for Vice President Kamala Harris," it reads.
The announcement is a powerful rebuke to far-right Silicon Valley billionaires like Elon Musk who have thrown their support behind Donald Trump's fascist movement in the hopes of more tax cuts.
Please retweet and ❤️ to thank Mark Cuban and his allies for supporting Kamala — and consider joining the growing exodus to Tribel, a new pro-democracy social network that is exploding in popularity because Twitter and Facebook are trying to stop its growth — which is only making Tribel grow even faster. Private Eye points out the humongous Brexit elephant in the room. While our governments stubbornly refuse to even acknowledge it. A country can’t make progress like this.
Actually Emma Barnett, it wouldn't be interesting to ask Nigel Farage anything. Please don't give him a platform to peddle his vile conspiracy crap on what we are always being told is our BBC. #R4Today
