Consider what was available to @RahulGandhi . His party and his family had decades of connection with those who handle the levers of power. He could have borrowed the vocabulary of hate, ignited public passions and ridden them. He could have sided with the brokers of power, inside the party and outside, and prospered with them. Power was never out of reach.

But Rahul Gandhi did not want power to rule. He wants power to serve. He wants to direct it to relieve the material misery and the mental distress of citizens. If power is not directed to that end, he has no interest in it.

….It is never easy for a leader to keep faith in his convictions when even his followers question his ways and his capacity. But Rahul led. He walked the length of the country. He kept raising the truths that others found uncomfortable.

And the man who claims to be the “people’s person” lives in an ivory tower, travels in an unnecessarily long convoy of black cars, and galavants across the globe in a special jet - and yet has the audacity to monopolise Vande Mataram.

Vande Mataram is a work of sweat, blood and tears. It belongs to the people who have lived, struggled and sacrificed for this country.

Obviously, Narendra Modi has by no means any connection with it at all.
