It was Atiku Abubakar, along with his business associates such as Peter Okocha, Cletus Ibeto, Chika Okafor, Sunday Afolabi, and others who funded Obasanjo’s 1999 presidential campaign. Additionally, Atiku brought his friends and Shehu Yar’Adua’s political structure into the campaign. He also brought the former Senate President of the 3rd Republic, Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, as campaign coordinator, and late Chief Tony Anenih as the South-South coordinator, among others he introduced to the campaign.
