Mathematics is the key to the future. Last week the @abel_prize was awarded in Oslo. Does math still matter? It does! A society that does not understand the algorithms shaping its information hands power to those who do. Thanks to @Klassekampen :

In case you always wanted to know why I think we are all mathematicians check out the video and hear me talk about my path to math at @UiTNorgesarktis and share advice to young mathematicians during this year's @abel_prize week.

Wonderful visit to our @eugloh19 - partner @UnivParisSaclay . Thank you very much for the invitation to @Institut_IHES - to look at joint interests with @liestoermer and for good discussions at the Math institute to explore collaboration in teaching math with @UiTNorgesarktis
The planar Evolute is a fascinating curve with a history going back at least to Apollonius (200 BC) and the (virtual) ink of its newest chapter is still fresh: "Return of the plane evolute".

We had the successful kick-off of our new Indo-Norwegian project: "Mathematical Theory of Data Transmission and Data Encryption" 🎉. Over the next 3 years, we’ll collaborate closely with our partners to foster educational and research exchanges between Norway and India. 🌍📊🔒
This year’s Mørketidens Mattemøte – the 7th edition – once again brought mathematicians from across Norway and the Nordic countries to @UiTNorgesarktis for two inspiring days of idea exchange and new connections. Thanks to Trond Mohn for the continued support for mathematics!
🌟 Do you know a PhD candidate nearing the finish line or a PostDoc looking for an exciting opportunity to pursue an ambitious MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship?
@UiTNorgesarktis offers a fantastic program to help you prepare

Norway needs a boost for mathematics - also in fundamental research. Together with @UiT_DagRune, Hans Munthe-Kaas and Helge Holden we argue that the @liestoermer at @UiTNorgesarktis established together with @UiB is an important step in this endeavour!

The findings of the #TIMSS study are a wake-up call for Norway: a striking 42% of 5th graders and 66% of 9th graders report that they do not enjoy learning math. This is a serious problem – thanks to @Aftenposten for allowing us to comment on this

The 3rd edition of the Lie-Størmer Colloquium brings exciting mathematics to @UiTNorgesarktis - with financial support by @forskningsradet, the Trond Mohn Foundation and the Tromsø Research Foundation

One of the privileges you get working at @UiTNorgesarktis : you get to see this dancing of the Aurora borealis quite frequently. BTW the study of this phenomenon motivated Car Størmer to switch towards computational mathematics- so it's underlying the @liestoermer center today.
Congratulations to Dr Arne Lien and Dr Robin Schabert who successfully defended their theses at @UiTNorgesarktis this week. Thanks to Tromsø Forsknings stiftelsen for the financial support of these PhD projects!
Interested to find out more about nonnegative and sums of squares symmetric functions of fixed degree? We study these objects with tools of tropical geometry - so very fitting for the summerly weather even in the Arctic at @UiTNorgesarktis
