Areej El-Jawahri @Areejmd @MGHCancerCenter demonstrated the benefit of palliative care (PC) on end-of-life (EOL) care preferences/delivery, hospitalizations and QoL in patients with AML or MDS.
▪️ Patients were randomized to palliative care intervention (n=58) vs usual care (n=57)
▪️ PC associated with earlier EOL care preferences documentation and reduced hospitalizations at EOL
▪️ QoL improved in PC vs usual care
Areej El-Jawahri emphasized the huge need for improvement in EOL care in these patients.

Per a randomized clinical trial from @Areejmd @MGHCancerCenter, a multimodal intervention delivered by trained transplant clinicians yielded meaningful and sustained improvements in sexual health outcomes in hematopoietic stem cell transplant survivors.

I'm incredibly impressed by the leadership of @ramsedhom and @MazieTsangMD, seen in this photo presiding over yesterday's @ASCO Palliative Care Community of Practice at #ASCO24. Under their leadership and that of @realbowtiedoc @crisbergerot @NatashaDhawanMD @Chaosdyna @mondhiry and others, this group's membership has grown to nearly 250 in just a few years! Thank you for your leadership.

Yesterday, we were joined by trailblazers @DrVickiJackson (current President of @AAHPM) and Dr Janet Abrahm, this year's Walther Cancer Foundation Supportive Oncology Award recipient, sharing their reflections on our field. Many thanks to these visionaries for their generosity of time and insights.

As I think back to my first ASCO meeting over a decade ago, I'm amazed at how far we've come in that short time, as a #pallonc community and field. Later today, at the plenary session, we'll hear the results of a massive pragmatic trial of palliative care delivery models, with important implications for access to specialty palliative care in rural areas (with, I think, related opportunities to address inequities via policy change). Palliative Care is no longer a fringe movement or a fledgling field, rather, it's taking center stage at the largest and most influential cancer care meeting in the world! Even this year's @ASCOPres theme is about palliative care and patient experience.

It's truly remarkable to see all that's been achieved, and to reflect upon the impact of this work on the lives of countless patients and care persons. I can't wait to see what the next 10 years brings!
