There's some truth to this. I heard last night that we spoke to Madrid in recent days, which was mainly for standard enquiries. Obviously there's also Camavinga there, but I'm presuming United are just trying to see if Tchouameni is fully impossible after signing a new deal.

🚨💣: Manchester United’s midfield search latest. 🔴👀 #MUFC

As widely reported, Manchester United are looking to sign a third midfielder this summer. The club have a very clear understanding internally of the profile they want, but they’re also being disciplined financially.

My understanding is that United are not prepared to pay £80m-£100m upfront for midfield targets such as Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton or Alex Scott. The club believe those valuations are currently too high.

Instead, United would be more comfortable structuring deals in the £65m-£75m range, potentially rising through achievable add-ons if required. A package around £80m including bonuses is far more realistic than paying that figure outright. 💰

Behind the scenes, United have already held discussions with several players’ camps to assess availability and interest.

As I previously reported, there have been conversations with Alex Scott’s representatives, while contacts have also taken place regarding Adam Wharton. Agent discussions around Manu Koné have been positive, although nothing is advanced at this stage.

Carlos Baleba remains admired internally. Talks haven’t taken place recently, but they could be reopened should United decide to seriously pursue him later in the window.

Another name under consideration is João Gomes, although my understanding is that nothing concrete has developed there. At this stage, much of the movement appears to be coming from the player’s representatives rather than the club.

United are looking for a midfielder capable of operating in that deeper role someone who can offer defensive protection and eventually succeed Casemiro.

One thing I’ve consistently been told is that the club are working much more discreetly in the market than in previous years. Not every discussion becomes public, and they remain open to moving quickly should the right opportunity arise.

As for Ayyoub Bouaddi, United admire him enormously, which has also been reported elsewhere. Initial conversations with his camp have taken place, and the player was open to hearing United’s project.

However, Bouaddi wants to assess all of his options before making any decision. Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and other clubs are all in the picture, with City currently among those pushing hardest.

Game time and his long-term development remain the biggest priorities for the player.

For now, United’s focus remains on finding the right midfielder at the right price rather than overpaying simply because a player is available.
