TRAGIC DEATH : SOMTOCHUKWU CHRISTELLE MADUAGWU
December 26, 1995 - September 29, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that the management and staff of the ARISE News Channel announce the passing of our beloved colleague, News Anchor, Reporter and Producer, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu. Sommie tragically passed away in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025 following an armed robbery incident in her residence in Katampe area of Abuja that is being investigated by the Nigeria Police.

Sommie, 29, was not only a cherished member of the ARISE News family but also a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with our viewers.

Beyond the airwaves, Sommie was a lawyer who was a professional and supportive colleague and a friend to many.

We extend our deepest condolences to Sommie’s parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time. Sommie’s voice is now silent but her spirit, passion and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory. We remain in shock and call for a speedy investigation, apprehension and prosecution of the culprits.

2026 APC Kwara Governorship Primary: The Process That Produced Danladi-Salihu Was Fraudulent - Jawondo

There was no election anywhere in Kwara State. The primary was originally scheduled for Thursday, and people turned out to vote, but it was postponed until Friday. By 3:00 p.m. on Friday, everyone was still waiting. At about 4:00 p.m., an announcement directed people to the Banquet Hall, and by 5:00 p.m., the results had already been announced. There was never any voting process.

South Africa World Cup Star Jayden Adams Dies at 25

South African midfielder Jayden Adams has died at the age of 25, just weeks after representing his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Adams featured in all three of South Africa's group-stage matches and helped the team reach the World Cup knockout rounds for the first time in its history. Police have launched an investigation after his body was discovered at a house in Cape Town, while authorities said the cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Tributes have poured in from across the football world, including FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who described Adams as a gifted player who would be "sorely missed."

One question I keep asking is, was there a budget defence? If yes how come nobody realised that we are dealing with something fundamentally wrong? I read a similar office existed under the previous administration, only to be repackaged by adding Presidential. This could only have happened because people in government have deep knowledge of the system and could manipulate the creation of this office which is frightening.
