Andy Biggs just killed a deal protecting Arizona’s police, firefighters, and teachers — all to keep loopholes in the ESA program that lets our tax dollars go towards vacations and diamonds.
We can't trust Andy Biggs to stand up for Arizona. He'll always put his partisan agenda first, leaving Arizonans to foot the bill.
In 2022, lawmakers deliberately exempted police and firefighters from anti-union legislation. But in their rush to punish teachers, Warren Petersen and his allies in the senate just passed a ballot referral that could harm all unions in our state, including police and firefighters— and he is too incompetent to get a repeal over the finish line.
The anti-union measure is despicable. At a time when working families are struggling to keep up with rising costs, the answer is not to make it harder for workers in Arizona to stand together.
This November, hard-working Arizona voters will remember how Republican politicians fought to keep voucher dollars flowing to the state’s richest families and paying for diamond rings and lingerie.
When lawmakers approached unions with an offer to pass voucher reforms & drop their referrals, we were open to talking.
Instead, Andy Biggs & his fellow extremists created a circus. Our initiative has the signatures to make the ballot & we look forward to victory in November.
NEW: Another nail has been hammered into the coffin of a special session for ESA reform.
Arizona Education Association and union allies no longer in support of special session after @GOP rallies behind proposal put forward by GOP gubernatorial front-runner @andybiggs4az.
The Biggs plan holds working people hostage in exchange for risking millions of dollars for Arizona public schools (SCR 1032) and protecting the worst aspects of the voucher program (HCR 2048) with a referral that despicably treats military families as partisan bait.
@votewarren@SteveMontenegro@andybiggs4az@ArizonaEA .@GovernorHobbs spokesman calls Biggs plan a "sham deal" and says Hobbs won't accept it, accuses legislative Republicans of "throwing firefighters, police and teachers under the bus" to protect waste, fraud and abuse in the ESA program.

Arizona’s future depends on strong public schools and robust labor rights.
Together with fellow unions and allies representing hundreds of thousands of workers, we support proposals for a special session to rein in AZ's out-of-control voucher program & stop anti-union referrals.
'One of the worst-written bills I’ve ever seen': Would GOP lawmakers' ballot referral designed to kill teachers' unions also take out police & fire? Police union leader thinks so, per @JimSmall. #HCR2040 https://t.co/a5NKLZQoaJ
Arizona students and public school families deserve better than the miserable failure we saw from Legislative Republicans this session.

49th in education spending. Arizona's kids and teachers deserve a lot better than that. Public schools here are already underfunded and school vouchers are making it worse. I’m fighting to protect public education, because students in Arizona and across the country deserve to have the same opportunities I did.
"My union quite literally saved my teaching career. I am still in this profession because I finally experienced what it feels like to work with clear expectations, fair treatment & collective strength behind me."
Educators are speaking out on how HCR 2040 will hurt our state.👇
Opinion: Arizona Republican lawmakers want to strip teachers of the right to join a union, weakening their ability to advocate for their classrooms. https://t.co/wSAKEPp8pK
