The results of the election for the Democratic nomination for House District 1 of the Virginia General Assembly are in, and I want to congratulate Delegate Patrick Hope on his victory and I wish him success in his ninth term. While this is not the result we had worked so hard for in our campaign, we have accomplished so much that we are proud of.
I never thought I would be running for political office, but the rise in authoritarianism across the river in Washington, D.C. and the skyrocketing cost of living here at home made it clear that status quo leadership was not meeting this critical moment. As a son of immigrants, it was disheartening to see the America that welcomed my family slipping away, and I ran for office to do everything in my power to keep that promise of the American dream alive for all.
Our message resonated with others. In just a few short months, we brought together a diverse coalition of people who were ready for a new generation of engaged leadership in our General Assembly. Together, we knocked on over 22,000 doors, had nearly 5000 conversations, attended dozens of community events, and raised nearly $100,000 without taking a dime from corporations.
I want to thank all of my supporters for their incredible work these past months. Every donation, every door you knocked, and every conversation you had was vital to getting our message out there. I would not have been able to accomplish any of this without you. This loss, while hard, is not the end. Our priorities are still as important today as they were yesterday, and I’m going to tirelessly continue the fight for Arlingtonians now and into the future. Now is the time to unite our party and get to work to elect Abigail Spanberger, Ghazala Hashmi, Jay Jones, and Democrats up and down the ballot in November.
Thank you,
Arjoon Srikanth
