Over time, the concept of juju intersected with Voodoo around protective or cursed charm bags.

If a hexed gris-gris ("juju") bag was placed on an enemy's doorstep to cause them harm, people in the community would warn others about the object and its lingering energy as bad juju.

Bad juju: modern slang for bad vibes, negative energy, or an omen of bad luck.

While used casually today to describe an unsettling atmosphere or a cursed object, the expression has deep historical and spiritual roots.

Linguists trace the root to either the Hausa word jùjú, meaning an evil spirit, or the French word joujou, meaning toy.

Horse was a favorite to win, galloping toward the finish line with immense speed. However, the Snake had secretly coiled itself around the Horse's hoof. Just before the finish line, the Snake leaped off, startling the Horse into jumping backward. The Snake slithered into 6th.
