Sherman I ‘13’ pictured by Sgt Collins #OTD 8 July 1944, is from 4 Troop, A Sqn, 1st Northants Yeomanry during Charnwood.
‘13’ was damaged a month later at St. Aignan when a shell through the mantlet killed the commander Lt. J Smith.

From the war diary of 44 RTR (1943). Interesting short report on the still fairly new Mk III Sherman in Sicilly. There had been initial misgivings in the battalion it appears but these appear to have largely vanished.

Hope this is of interest.
Lt. Brown sat in the centre, commander of ‘Lillingstone’, number ‘55’ a Sherman I from 4 Troop, C Squadron, 1 Northamptonshire Yeomanry.
Lillingstone was lost at St. Aignan, Lt. Brown and gunner, Tp. Monkman, both wounded.

Amongst the casualties, Lt. Col G.G.L Willis DSO, Lt. W.H Palmer and Sgt. J.L Ward lost their lives.

A Sherman III from 4th Armoured Brigade passing through Carlentini, Sicily #OTD 15 July 1943.
Carlentini had been captured the day before, with 3CLY engaging an A/Tk screen left by the evacuating enemy, on their route towards Primsole Bridge.
