After working on some of South Africa’s biggest breaches, I went into the trenches and came out with a research paper.

The credentials, cookies and session tokens already exfiltrated may still be circulating downstream. I unpacked that problem through LummaC2, MaaS architecture and the credential economy.

So both KFC and Tracker have suffered ransomware attacks. This does not automatically point to a cybersecurity skills shortage. The bigger issue is that the attack surface has shifted tremendously.

Identity is now an attack surface. Cloud is an attack surface. SaaS, third-party integrations, remote access, endpoints and stolen session tokens have fundamentally changed how adversaries gain and maintain access.

We cannot defend a 2026 attack surface with a 2016 security architecture. The threat has evolved. Our defensive architecture has to evolve with it.
