🚨 AI financing is entering a new phase and the bond market is starting to send an important signal.

💰 For a long time, jumbo bond deals were mostly reserved for mega-acquisitions. Today, they are almost becoming routine for tech giants. As you may know, Amazon has just raised another $25 billion at a time when hyperscalers are increasingly turning to massive debt deals to fund their AI investments.

🤷‍♂️ To be clear, this is not an immediate sign of weakness as Amazon, Meta, Alphabet and Nvidia remain very high-quality credits. The issue is not their short-term solvency but market absorption. When everyone comes to market repeatedly to raise $20, $25 or $30 billion, investors naturally start asking for a higher premium. They are willing to buy but not without being better compensated.

🤔 Amazon’s transaction was completed but the reception was colder, with weaker demand and larger concessions. Until now, the market has mostly viewed AI as a story of unlimited growth. However, if that growth requires hundreds of billions of dollars in capex, partly funded with debt, then what would be the return on invested capital? Will these massive investments generate enough revenues, margins and cash flows to justify the effort?

The bond market may simply be the first to remind us that even for tech giants, money still has a cost.

🚨 BREAKING: Al Jazeera Mubasher correspondent Mohammed Samir Washah has been killed in Gaza following an Israeli drone strike on his car at Al-Nabulsi roundabout, west of Gaza City. Footage shared from the scene by Drop Site contributor Mohammed Ahmed shows the vehicle engulfed in flames, indicating a direct hit.

Gaza’s Government Media Office condemned the killing, stating that the number of Palestinian journalists killed by Israel has risen to 262 since the start of the genocide in Gaza. The Office called on the international community to “condemn the crimes of the occupation, deter it, and pursue it in international courts for its ongoing crimes.”
