"They've got Mahomes and Reid... What else do they have... You tell me where the Chiefs are elite. Where is the blue chip talent?"
@jasonrmcintyre isn't expecting the Chiefs to bounce back this season
I Don’t Know If You Know This But…
NFL players are fighting for key incentives this week…
And you can take advantage in the betting markets.
15 player incentives you should know for Week 16:
Sky is falling aside, if the Chiefs win their next two games they’re very likely going to get in. Actually winning those two games is its own conversation 🙃
Kareem Hunt leads NFL running backs in EPA per rush, not Jonathan Taylor.
I figured that was mostly just due to touchdowns.
Nope, even with red zone plays removed, Kareem Hunt leads in EPA per rush...
Dan Campbell is in a class of his own as a CEO HC.
When he had a play caller that was better than him (Ben Johnson), he let Johnson run the show.
Then this year with the offense needing a jump start, he steps in to call the plays and they drop 44.
2022: Mahomes can win with anybody
2023: Receivers aren't good enough
2024: Tackles aren't good enough
2025: RBs aren't good enough
We've gone through blaming damn near every position group on offense.
@Arrowhead_Adam Obviously there’s a reason Wilkins hasn’t been signed, but if it’s just character stuff at this point (it might not be), that’s right up Andy’s alley. I also think calling the dolphins on Jaylen Wright makes sense.
Saying the Chiefs haven’t beaten any good teams completely hand waves beating a Ravens team that was favored at Arrowhead and a Lions team that literally turned around the following week and manhandled the Bucs.
They played poorly yesterday. They’ll be fine.
Mahomes is dominating both early and late in downs. From @robertmays on the Athletic Football Pod:
-Mahomes has the 2nd highest success rate on throws that occur within 2.5 seconds of his drop backs (via @nextgenstats)
-On drop backs of at least 4 seconds, Mahomes has a 53.7% success rate (league avg. is 25.4%)
-On drop backs of at least 4 seconds, Mahomes has an EPA per play of 0.57 (league avg. is NEGATIVE 0.57)
-On drop backs of at least 4 seconds, Mahomes has a total EPA of 30.5 (league as a whole is at -623 and the next closest player is Sam Darnold at 2.7)
Mahomes diagnoses defenses as good as anyone, and when the play isn’t there, he plays a different sport.
I actually kinda think McDermott gets a bad rap. 13 seconds aside, they’ve had a lot of major defensive injuries over the years (Benford went out almost immediately in last years AFCC), which is his side of the ball. But they’ve adapted on offense as teams have started to play Allen differently, and always seem to get better as the season goes on.
To your point though, I do think it’s a decent disadvantage to have a defensive minded HC when you have a unicorn QB.
