In 2022, Jarren Duran tried to take his own life while going through a very difficult moment in both his career and his mental health.

🗣️ “I was very depressed because of my poor performance and the criticism. My mental health struggles got so serious that I took my rifl* and pulled the trigger… but the gun didn’t fire. I took it as a sign that I should keep living.”

Not long after, he began treating his mental health and turned his career around. In 2024, he had a breakout season and became an All-Star in Major League Baseball.

Today, he is considered one of the best players in the world at his position.

Duran had the opportunity to represent Puerto Rico, the United States, or Mexico, but last year he chose to wear the green colors of the country of his father.

Jarren Duran is a true example of resilience and without a doubt, an idol for Mexico. 🇲🇽💚

Coach Scheyer on the most important things to establish with a team right away:

1. Nothing is guaranteed
He tells his guys from day one that no one is promised anything. A real Duke team is built on work. There are a lot of outside misconceptions about Duke, but Scheyer says the truth is simple: it’s a culture of competition and a culture of work.

2. Connectivity
Teams win when they learn how to play with each other. That means with humility and recognizing when a teammate is better at something and embracing it because that’s what makes the whole group stronger.
