🚨 A new investigation has revealed that police forces across Britain have spent more than £1 million on specially sized uniforms and body armour over the past two years.
The figures revealed include:
🔹 282 XXXXL body armour vests ordered by police forces.
🔹 At least 1,089 specially made vests purchased for officers who couldn’t be fitted with standard sizes.
🔹 Cumbria Police reportedly ordered 731 bespoke body armour sets.
🔹 Lincolnshire Police spent almost £90,000 on 149 oversized body armour sets.
🔹 Hampshire Police’s bill reportedly reached £46,955.60 for 41 sets.
🔹 The Metropolitan Police also ordered specially tailored trousers, including sizes for waists measuring up to 60 inches.
The figures have sparked debate about police fitness standards and public spending.
Former Met Police detective Peter Bleksley questioned whether officers requiring the largest sizes could meet the physical demands of policing.
However, Police Federation acting National Chairman Paul Williams defended the need for properly fitted equipment, stressing that officers come in all shapes and sizes and that body armour must fit correctly to help protect their lives.
