@sucre_xo COLIN IN BLACK AND WHITE. Written by Michael Starrbury. Directed by Ava DuVernay. Proudly Produced by ARRAY Filmworks. Now Streaming on Netflix.
Ava DuVernay was a film publicist until thirty-two. Borrowed a camera and started directing without training. By forty-seven: Selma, 13th, A Wrinkle in Time, Origin. Her path proved directing gatekeeping could be bypassed entirely. #director#avaduvernay#directing
My wife says, “it’s Selma time. Plan a national day of protest. Members of Congress, clergy, plan to get on a plane to Minneapolis for that day”
I think she’s right. What would John Lewis do?
In celebration of Black History Month, we are hosting a special screening of the movie Selma at the Hellman Library on the Saint Rose Campus on February 11th! Following the film there will be a panel discussion centered around the film’s themes and significance.
Ava DuVernay and Byron Allen are developing a film centered on Coretta Scott King’s decades-long effort to investigate Dr. King’s assassination, revisiting questions many say were never fully answered.

Selma is an incredibly powerful film about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement. This movie hit me right between the eyes. It was also my first introduction to director Ava DuVernay- a gifted artist with a vision. On #MLKWeekend, I implore you to try this film
