Beef prices are at all time highs and herd levels are at all time lows. And people think we are somehow going to get out of this without genomics and gene editing. That we can just continue to breed cattle the same way we did in the 1950s. You can't eat software.
@shae_mcl I'm very jealous, I'm finishing up my third rotation. The first lab hit capacity, the second PI shut his lab, so all my chips are in this one (I do like it a lot)
@NikoMcCarty I think a major aspect of it is that we don't have good theories of collectives yet. We can use differential eqs/dynamics to now model and predict behavior of multigene networks with accuracy; but, go up in scale and we don't know the core parameters that are context independent
@ryan_prend it's completely overhyped, i don't think producing a bunch of signaling data and training some AI models on it is going revolutionize manufacturing of tissue or treating neuro or other crazy diseases
