🛡�� SECURITY REPORT — An exploiter has been caught and neutralized

Transparency matters to us, so here is the full story.

What happened

In June, our save API had a vulnerability window during which the server trusted creature data sent by the client. It was identified and patched during our security audit at the end of June. One player used that window to inject hand-crafted creature stats into their save — then quietly farmed the game for weeks.

Combined with a design flaw in The Pit's difficulty calibrator (it capped enemy scaling, so absurdly high stats guaranteed victory), this gave them a 100% win rate over 11,378 consecutive fights in a mode designed to pay out at ~60%.

The numbers

▸ 76,490 total fights over 28 days, running the loop overnight at up to 3,557 fights/hour
▸ ~380,000 $FA extracted from the game economy
▸ 220,000 $FA withdrawn on-chain
▸ Total deposited by this player: 2,000 $FA

How we know the save was forged — the proof is mathematical

Every legitimate stat gain in Fractal Arena multiplies all five stats by a shared factor, so a creature's stat proportions are fixed and every stat has a hard ceiling. This account's creatures break both laws:

▸ A base DEF of 7,913 where the absolute in-game maximum for that creature is 3,488 — 2.3× beyond anything the game can produce
▸ Two stat pairs exactly equal (1,885/1,885 and 2,276/2,276) — impossible through gameplay, typical of values typed by hand into a JSON file
▸ The forged data carries technical artifacts of client-side editing, found nowhere else in the entire database (we audited all 110 creatures of all 36 players)
▸ The same account's third creature — created and leveled entirely server-side — is perfectly normal. The game produces clean creatures; the other two didn't come from the game.

Sanctions

�� Forged creatures wiped
⛔ Withdrawals frozen
⛔ Remaining fraudulent balance (236,000 $FA) confiscated and recycled into the buyback pools

What we fixed (already live)

✅ The Pit's calibrator now scales with ANY team power — the ~60% win-rate design holds for everyone, whale or beginner (730 automated tests green)
✅ Instant-combat farming is closed
✅ The injection vector itself was patched back in June — saves have been server-authoritative ever since

What it means for you

Honest players' deposits and balances were never at risk. No legitimate account is affected by any of these changes. The full audit trail — every fight, every withdrawal, every forged byte — is preserved.

FIP-101 Update: Updated Proof Submission Rules Now Live

The updated indexer proof submission rules are also now active. New late submission decay rules:

• Indexers are expected to submit valid proof within 720 blocks
• After 720 blocks, every additional 120 blocks delay enters the next decay interval
• Rewards will follow a progressive decay schedule, with lighter reductions early and steeper reductions later. Progressive decay schedule: 5% → 8% → 12% → 16% → 24% → 25%
• Rewards decay to 0 once the delay reaches 1,440 blocks.

✨ Index Mining Public block rewards have now reached full release - 25 FB per Index Mining block, and there's over 9,000,000 FB now staked!

Public Testing will continue over the coming weeks as we refine the system based on operational experience and community feedback. This officially launch is expected to be in late July. Stay tuned to our official announcements for the latest updates.

FIP-101 Update: Proof Submission Rule Improvements

As Public Testing Stage 2 continues and more indexers join Index Mining and Staking, we're able to observe how the current proof submission system performs in practice and receive valuable feedback from operators.

To allow more flexibility for operations while helping staking rewards remain more stable, we're planning to adjust the indexer proof submission rules by extending the proof submission window while continuing to encourage timely proof submission.

📌 New Proof Submission Rules
• Indexers are expected to submit valid proof within 720 blocks

Dev update: FA withdrawals are now bulletproof.

Yesterday a player flagged that a 20,000 FA withdrawal hadn't landed in their wallet. We dug in.

The root cause: a rare edge case where a payout could stall if our server restarted during the short window while the on-chain transfer was being delivered. The tokens were created but never reached the player.

To be clear — funds were never at risk, and the player was made whole right away.

So we rebuilt the payout pipeline to be fully durable:

🔁 Every withdrawal & airdrop is now tracked in a recovery queue
⚡ Payouts auto-resume after any restart, and retry until they land
🔒 Fully idempotent — no double-spends, nothing can be lost on-chain
