@a42games Well it do helps for engagement a bit and depends on your type of game too. But also agree that some of them just farm for engagement to 'help' indie Devs.
Of course any experience and inspiration can be gain anywhere and any kinds of medium. Like the game I'm developing right now is an inspiration from the game that I played like 10 years ago. It was a text based survival game where you guide someone to safety. Any games you see these days are add on from previous gen to another gen like let's say 10 years ago it's mostly game about modern action-shooter then 5 years later came the action-shooter with horror elements then another generation came the idea of action-shooter with sci-fi and horror elements in it. In short there is always idea and inspiration, and there will be no short of it too.
There is multiple tools to use but personally I have like written to do/or fix list on paper as these accumulated papers also work as documentation for my game and archive too. I have my GDD (game development documentation) that I update from time to time or need to refer what I might have forgotten lol
@EracuStudios yeah versatile at almost everything, master of none lol like im mostly excellent at 3D and any creative related stuff but for programming yeah.... that part is a bit tough for me....
And indiedev should know that we are not only game developer but also a business man
@orgunbertan Yeah I heard a lot about the ultra policing Reddit mods which deters me from posting whatever game Dev related in Reddit. X is much better but it's not the best either.
@paper_rogue Don't think too much of it, just focus on your target audience, focus on what needs to be done, just don't let any unnecessary negative comment affect your development work. Good luck to you
The only reason why I haven't promote much about my game is a lot of things is still working on behind the scenes, I only make a post about my game so to make it officially exist.....
Urghhh typical perfectionist mindset....
yup i agree, try to make games that is at least uniquely different eventhough its just a bit can make your game stand out from the other game in the market. Each game has their own kind of success and failure even if we made the same genre. Heck the coconut simulator game attracts a lot of people despite the gameplay is just you being a bloody coconut and can't do anything lol.
Devlog 2 Interactive Main Menu (kinda)
just showcasing how the menu is gonna be. The monitor is where you quit, start and continue the game while the white empty board is suppose to be the settings panel where you adjust whatever need to adjust.
It's not finalize yet and i think the layout needs to change again as i find it..... dissatisfying.
Recently just saw many of the repost regarding an indie game being refunded for being too short
Some says steam should fix their refund window which is able to be refund if play under 2 hour. Umm.... no steam doesn't need to fix that at all heck there is nothing to fix to begin with.
I know every game developer has their own drive or objective they want to achieve for their game be it for monetary gain, or fame or maybe as to show your capability as game Dev or perhaps you just are really passionate.
Now what I believe and learnt as a game developer is it is our responsibility to bring the very best experience to the player. We are selling the experience that suppose to be never experience by anyone. We are making what we imagine turn to something interactive that people can enjoy. Which I believe should be the main priority.
Sorry for yapping I should go back developing my game. Peace ✌️
I don't know if it's right to feel this way but have you guys felt any sort of guilt feeling when you wanna take a break from game dev for a bit, like you wanna play some games for a bit.
Everytime i just wanna take a break or play a game for a moment, my brain just immediately remind me that i should get back to work ASAP!!!!
I don't think it's good to have this sort of mentality but I believe everyone of us should take a break like a day of every week.
@Ahwhwh2740394 Unreal engine is definitely good when it comes to make games that is graphically stunning. But doesn't matter what engine you use, when making games you wanna avoid that typical stock looking game like people can guess this game is made of unreal or unity
Me as a solo game dev for the past 2 years
1-3 month of development : bunch of ideas, oh yeah i can't wait to do this, Motivation STONKS, I can do this!!!
4-8 months in development : Still mentally strong and motivated to develop the game, I'll take things in steady pace.
1 year in development : Procrastination starts to kick in, reality starts to kick in, progression still going strong but in steady pace, changes made and further overthinking.
1 year 6 month in development : Uughhhh, can i even do this? Further overthinking if the game is interesting enough, further changes, more procrastination..... Discipline held you together, somehow.
2 year in development : i think..... yeah i can do this....maybe
right now im still going strong and yeah unfortunately procrastination is unavoidable at time but generally im doing just fine these days. Not gonna give up, and im not gonna let myself down.
@Ominous_Truth yeah me too keep playing the same scene multiple times and only realize i need to make some updates when i see other dev making similar things to me and compare then i realize mine is not up to par.....
